Movie "Red Rain": Who plays former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh?

The audience questioned who was the "capable and capable" actress to play the role of former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh - the woman who attracted attention in international politics at the Paris Conference from 1968-1973.

One of the frequently asked questions for the upcoming film “Red Rain” is who will play the role of Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh - former Vice President and the only woman to sign the Paris Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam in 1973.

Based on the trailer, many viewers guessed that it was actress Yen Nhi - the woman wearing the green ao dai, representing the delegation of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam. In addition, on the side of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, there was also another female representative, played by actress Dinh Thuy Ha, also with a bun and wearing ao dai.

However, the film crew representative, director-Lieutenant Colonel Dang Thai Huyen, confirmed that all characters and stories in the film are fictional, inspired by reality. The two female characters at the negotiating table were both built with inspiration from the image of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh, and not directly playing her role.

“When choosing the two actresses, I chose to follow my idol, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh. She is a good diplomat , her demeanor and temperament are wonderful and I hope my actors have that temperament. People can talk about whether the actors are like the 'original' or not, but I affirm that the film does not have a character named Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh.

Whether it is 'Red Rain' or later other films recreating the negotiations in Paris, there will never be a character like the original. She is unique and one of a kind, a model image. The characters that can only show a part of that temperament or spirit are already successful."

As one of the rare female representatives at the negotiating table, actress Dinh Thuy Ha shared that she was under great pressure because the image of Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh was very clear in the hearts of the Vietnamese people.

“It was a terrible pressure, a huge comparison. I tried my best to do it,” actress Dinh Thuy Ha shared. “Any woman who sits in such a representative position is no longer ‘normal’. From temperament to behavior, words, appearance… it is extraordinary.”

In addition to the two actresses mentioned above, playing the roles of delegation members are People's Artist Tran Luc, singer Hoa Minzy (Democratic Republic of Vietnam delegation); KOL Nguyen Lac Huy (National Liberation Front delegation) and actor Mai The Hiep (Republic of Vietnam delegation).

“Red Rain” tells the story of the 81 fierce days and nights of the liberation army holding out at the ancient citadel of Quang Tri , directly contributing to the successful signing of the Paris Agreement after 5 years of negotiations. The film was produced by the People’s Army Cinema in collaboration with Galaxy Studio, aiming at the country’s great anniversary - the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh, whose real name is Nguyen Thi Chau Sa, was born in 1927 in Sa Dec. She participated in revolutionary activities from a young age. She was the only woman who sat at the negotiating table between the parties and signed the agreement.

In politics, she always showed composure and firmness, clearly showing her good will to find a solution to end the war. She argued sharply in Q&A sessions with hundreds of international journalists, being likened to “a dancer among wolves.”

From the war until after peace was restored, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh held many positions such as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government (1969-1976) and Minister of Education from (1976-1987) and Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1992-2002).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh is also the granddaughter of patriot Phan Chau Trinh, who initiated the reform movement "Enlighten the people, strengthen the people's spirit, improve the people's livelihood," to improve people's knowledge, civil rights and fight against the French colonial regime from 1906 to 1926 (when he passed away).
