According to parents' feedback, in the first meeting of the 2025-2026 school year, Phan Chu Trinh Primary School, Chu Prong Commune, Gia Lai Province, plans to collect many fees up to more than 4 million VND/year.
Some of the school's expected revenues for the school year include 360,000 VND for teaching English; 100,000 VND for the teaching and learning support fund; 180,000 VND for cleaning public restrooms and school grounds; and many other expenses for boarding activities are divided into smaller amounts.

“I see many unreasonable expenses such as input money for boarding activities, money spent on cleaning materials, security, and meals. Previously, parents proposed to remove the 900,000 VND/year fee for afternoon classes,” said one parent.
According to this parent, the family has 2 children going to school, at the beginning of the year, the amount of money to pay is up to 5-6 million VND. With the economic conditions of the family in a difficult area, this amount of money is really a pressure.

Ms. Phan Thi Nga, Principal of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School, said that at the beginning of the school year, the school held a meeting and asked parents for their opinions on the fees. According to Ms. Nga, the fees mentioned above are only estimates, and the school will consider and finalize them to be reasonable and in accordance with regulations.
"The initial investment of 500,000 VND/year is actually to buy supplies for boarding activities and buy towels and pillows for students at the beginning of the school year. In addition, parents pay an additional 135,000 VND/year to buy cleaning products. Worried that students will spill their lunch in the classroom, parents agree to pay 200,000 VND/year to hire a cleaner," Ms. Nga explained.
According to Ms. Nga, the new regulation requires students to leave school at around 3:00 p.m. Many working parents cannot pick up their children on time, so they have offered to pay 900,000 VND/year to have the teacher look after them until 5:00 p.m. The female principal said that the school does not collect this fee or the fee for cleaning the school yard.

Regarding the 360,000 VND/year for English lessons, Ms. Nga said: "Because the school lacks teachers, parents voluntarily pay to support the teachers to teach extra classes. The school is asking for the commune's opinion to collect this amount. If not, it will return it to the parents."
The principal said that the fees for boarding and studying were all proposed and voluntarily contributed by parents. She said the school would clarify the collection to comply with the new regulations.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Toan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chu Prong Commune, said that at the beginning of the school year, the commune had a meeting with schools and carefully directed the collection of fees. Any unclear fees need to wait for regulations to be applied.
"In response to parents' complaints, the commune has directed the vice chairman to work with schools to check the fees collected at the beginning of the school year," said Mr. Toan.
