Vietnam and Laos strengthen cooperation in STEM education - Robotics

According to the VNA correspondent in Laos, from September 26-27, in Kaysone Phomvihane city, Savannakhet province (Laos), the Vietnamese Consulate General in Savannakhet coordinated with the Vietnam STEM Alliance and the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Lang Son province to organize a workshop and direct instruction on STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) - Robotics.

Attending the event were Ms. Dang Thi Hai Tam, Consul General of Vietnam in Savannakhet; representatives of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province and many officials and teachers from Vietnam and Laos.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Dang Thi Hai Tam affirmed that the workshop is not only a forum for professional exchange but also a vivid demonstration of the friendship between Vietnam and Laos. According to the Consul General, STEM and STEM Robotics are important tools for the young generation to master technology, promote creativity, and link science and technology with socio-economic development.

Ms. Dang Thi Hai Tam expressed her hope that after the workshop, teachers and students in Central Laos could organize a STEM Robotics competition by the end of 2025 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (December 2, 1975 - December 2, 2025). The Vietnamese Consulate General in Savannakhet will accompany this activity if schools are willing to participate.

Also at the event, Mr. Hoang Van Thao, Head of the delegation of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province, emphasized that Vietnam and Laos are two neighboring countries with a special and close friendship. In the context of globalization and the 4.0 industrial revolution, cooperation in education development, especially in the fields of STEM, Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), is extremely necessary to prepare high-quality human resources for the future.

Mr. Hoang Van Thao said that in recent years, Lang Son province has implemented many synchronous solutions: issuing a plan to develop STEM education for the period 2025-2030; promoting teacher training; establishing STEM and Robotics clubs in schools; organizing robot creation competitions; cooperating with the STEM Alliance and educational organizations at home and abroad. Thanks to that, the STEM movement in Lang Son has developed strongly, students have won many domestic and international awards. He affirmed that Lang Son is ready to share experiences and support Lao provinces in implementing STEM education, contributing to nurturing the young generation - the future of both nations.

During the two-day workshop, 20 teachers from Lang Son directly guided their Lao colleagues to practice with robots for early application in teaching. The workshop provided Lao teachers and students with practical knowledge and methods of implementing STEM education, while opening up new cooperation opportunities between the education departments of the two countries. This is a practical step to contribute to training high-quality human resources to meet the development requirements in the new era, while continuing to strengthen the special, loyal friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
