Audience reactions to primetime dramas show that weak, submissive female characters are no longer supported. Plots where female protagonists are submissive are criticized. On the contrary, more and more dramas are being positively received for portraying strong modern women pursuing their passions.

Portrait of modern women

In those primetime drama recently, the character female lead no longer weak and submissive but often build with a strong image. Many TV series show that the portrait of modern Vietnamese women has changed positively.

The movie Walking in the bright sky Just finished part 1 on the evening of October 18, although there are still many controversies, the female main character Pu (Thu Ha Ceri) (closed) has many notable points.

Pu is a Red Dao girl who loves to explore , does not want to stay in the fields and get married early like her friends. She tries hard to go to the city to study medicine at university, facing many troubles to pay for her tuition.

Pu character tries to escape poverty, master of fate.

Throughout the episodes, Pu always wants to escape poverty and rise up in life. She protects the weak and opposes child marriage. Although her personality has caused controversy, Pu's will and strength cannot be denied.

Meet me on a sunny day airing in early 2024 also builds the image of a strong, individual female lead, even overwhelming the male lead. Cherry (role of Phuong) is a girl who carries on her shoulders the worries of making a living. Many times Phuong showed her fierce and straightforward personality, not afraid to respond to those who intended to harm her.

When Phuong's relationship with the male lead was criticized as "a mouse falling into a jar of rice", Phuong replied: "Hey, you high-class, well-educated person, hasn't anyone taught you the minimum courtesy? The minimum courtesy is that the speaker must have a listener. When someone is sitting here listening to you speak, even though your words feel like a punch in the ear, you have to sit back and listen to them finish speaking."

Phuong's personality helps Meet me on a sunny day loved by the audience, demanding more episodes.

Strong female characters, determined to pursue their own careers, often have many angles to be vividly exploited in film.

In some TV series Recently, most of the female protagonists do not stay at home to do housework but pursue their own careers. Tram Anh (Kha Ngan) in My family is suddenly happy is the owner of a wedding dress shop, Duyen (Le Bong) in the movie Missed the green day is an architect and works as a construction worker for children in the highlands, Yen (Hoang Thuy Linh) in the movie Don't be afraid to get married just for one reason is defined as a female boss in a large company.

The audience does not support the weak and cowardly female lead.

Form Weak, spineless female characters are no longer supported. Plots where the female protagonist is submissive are criticized.

Heart Rescue Station once caused controversy because the female lead Ngan Ha (Hong Diem) had a bland and indecisive psychological development despite facing many major events.

Ngan Ha is portrayed as a kind character with a sensitive heart. Betrayed by her husband and provoked by the mistress, it was not until the end of the film that Ngan Ha had a significant counterattack, knocking down An Nhien (Luong Thu Trang) in martial arts class.

Hong Diem has good acting skills but is still criticized for many times playing the role of a wife who is too patient and weak.

Ngân Hà always hesitated before making big decisions to regain the property stolen by her ex-husband. She also felt guilty, not wanting to hurt her ex-mother-in-law, which was partly the reason why her father had to go to jail. Ngân Hà's naivety made Heart Rescue Station was criticized for trivializing women. Actress Hong Diem also received criticism from the audience for repeatedly playing weak roles that only know how to cry.

Female leads who are too bland and weak often have difficulty attracting viewers because they bring fatigue and lack dramatic situations.

Following the development trend of the economy and society, today’s audiences demand the image of modern women who are independent, tough, and have psychological depth. Films that keep up with the trend will be more welcomed.
