District 1 "explains" the cutting down and trimming of 17 trees

(NLDO) - District 1 People's Committee has just reported to the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee about the felling of 8 lim xet trees and the cutting of the canopy of 9 lim xet trees.

According to District 1 People's Committee, at 8:00 a.m. on March 24, the Technical Infrastructure Management Center chaired and invited Ben Thanh Ward People's Committee, District 1 Construction Investment Project Management Board, Green Parks Company Limited to coordinate in inspecting the fact that Nam Viet Industrial and Construction Company Limited (the contractor) had damaged the root system of 17 lim xet trees on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street (from Cach Mang Thang Tam to Huyen Tran Cong Chua).

Faced with that situation, the Technical Infrastructure Management Center and Green Park Company Limited realized that to ensure safety for the road and the area, especially when adverse weather occurs (rain, storms, etc.), they decided to urgently cut down 8 lim xet trees and trim the canopy of 9 lim xet trees.

At the same time, the Technical Infrastructure Management Center requested the District 1 Construction Investment Project Management Board to rectify the construction work, not to let further cases of tree encroachment occur during the construction process and will have a written request for the Department of Construction Inspectorate, District 1 People's Committee, and Ben Thanh Ward People's Committee to coordinate in inspecting and handling according to regulations.

The People's Committee of District 1 said that during March and April, the central streets of District 1 will host major festival events of the city to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of District 1 has instructed the District 1 Construction Investment Project Management Board to continuously inspect, remind, and discipline construction units at the site, and request that units strictly comply with not encroaching on trees, green areas, and existing flower beds.

At the same time, continuously propose many solutions, measures as well as warning documents on tree safety from local tree management units to construction contractors and supervision consultants to promptly grasp, monitor and overcome, and adjust construction measures accordingly.

"However, during the process of sidewalk renovation, it is inevitable that some small tree roots will be affected when they grow horizontally on the sidewalk, although this is not a large number. In addition, there are also many difficulties when perennial trees with large canopies, trees with very large inclinations, roots grow above the ground, causing cracks in the ground and sidewalks around existing tree beds" - District 1 People's Committee reported.

In the coming time, District 1 People's Committee will continue to direct its affiliated units together with the District 1 Construction Investment Project Management Board and the Ward People's Committees to strengthen inspection and coordinate with relevant management units in ensuring tree safety.

In case of repeated violations of trees as in the past, the People's Committee of District 1 will resolutely handle the responsibilities of the construction unit and the consulting and supervising unit, and at the same time consider temporarily suspending construction, temporarily suspending the contract and recommending competent authorities to punish contractors who deliberately violate.
