Australia-Japan relations have never been stronger

On November 18, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said that Japan and Australia agreed to coordinate more closely to address challenges in the Indo- Pacific region.

The agreement was reached at a meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, on the sidelines of the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting.

According to the ministry, the two sides also agreed to jointly resolve other issues, such as the situation in Israel and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTTP), of which both countries are members. In addition, the two leaders pledged to support Pacific island nations.

Prime Minister Albanese commented: “The Australia-Japan relationship has never been stronger, especially in cooperation to solve economic issues.” He also said that the two sides have committed to comprehensive cooperation, including defense and security relations.
