On the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday - the 5th day of Tet (February 2, 2025), items such as green vegetables, seafood, tofu, etc. were in high demand due to increased demand.

Demand for green vegetables and seafood is increasing.

According to a survey by reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper at a number of markets and supermarkets in Hanoi , on the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, demand in markets and supermarkets has gradually increased. The most popular goods are "anti-nausea" items such as seafood, green vegetables, tofu, etc.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha (O Cho Dua ward, Dong Da district, Hanoi) shared that her family just returned to the city to prepare for work and school tomorrow (the 6th day of Tet) so she went to the market to prepare for the New Year's offerings.

“Because we ate a lot of banh chung, gio lua, chicken, etc. during Tet, my family decided to make a vegetarian meal for the first meal of the year in the city. According to our records, the prices of green vegetables and tofu are a little more expensive than usual, but acceptable,” Ms. Ha shared.

Accordingly, green vegetables and flowers such as cauliflower and kohlrabi are priced at around 20,000-22,000 VND/kg; tomatoes 18,000-20,000 VND/kg; chrysanthemum greens and mustard greens 20,000 VND/kg; tofu 24,000-28,000 VND/10 pieces; chrysanthemums 35,000 VND/bunch...

Another item that is quite popular these days is seafood. Accordingly, seafood prices remain high, equivalent to the time before Tet. Specifically, the price of tiger prawns (26-30 pieces/kg): 400,000-600,000 VND/kg; grass carp: 90,000-120,000 VND/kg; crispy carp 120,000-150,000 VND/kg...

Notably, in apartment buildings, the shopping atmosphere at apartment markets is quite lively due to the convenience of having goods delivered to the buyer’s home. In addition, the prices of goods at apartment markets are also “softer” than at markets or supermarkets because small traders do not have to pay rent for business premises.

According to a survey by a reporter from Cong Thuong Newspaper, at Gemek 2 apartment building - An Khanh - Hoai Duc, grass carp costs from 80,000 to 110,000 VND/kg; crispy carp costs 100,000 to 120,000 VND/kg; large tiger prawns cost about 450,000 to 500,000 VND/kg; chicken: 120,000 to 130,000 VND/kg; tofu costs 24,000 VND/10 pieces; banh chung costs 50,000 to 55,000 VND/piece; cauliflower costs 18,000 VND/kg; kohlrabi costs 15,000 VND/kg; large chrysanthemums cost 7,000 VND/flower; dahlias cost 35,000 VND/bunch; peach chips cost 50,000 VND/bunch...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hao (a trader at Gemek 2 apartment building) said: “I just opened my shop on the 5th day of Tet because I just came from the countryside. On the first day of selling, the apartment residents bought a lot of vermicelli, tofu, tomatoes, green vegetables, etc. Although we get the goods from the source, the price has increased slightly, but when selling to the people in the apartment building, we keep the price stable to keep customers.”

At supermarkets, the market situation on the 5th day of Tet was more vibrant. In addition to some supermarket systems and convenience stores that opened during Tet (Aeon Mall), some have reopened to serve normally or at certain hours from the 2nd day of Tet (Lotte mart, Co.op mart, Go!, MM Mega Market,...). The market of goods is more diverse because there are more large supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, and small traders at traditional markets reopening for business. Trading activities mostly focus on fresh food, vegetables, fruits, etc.

The market is gradually becoming more active.

Talking to reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, a representative of the Domestic Market Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade informed that on the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the commodity market has gradually become more vibrant but has not yet returned to normal. Workers have begun to return to the cities to go to work, however, most of them bring food from home so purchasing power has not increased strongly. Supermarkets, shops, and traditional markets have restarted, but the main consumed goods are still fresh food, vegetables, and fruits. At the wholesale market, the amount of goods coming to the market has increased compared to previous days, so the supply of essential goods is guaranteed, prices fluctuate according to normal market rules and there is no shortage of goods or price fever. During this time, many people go to the New Year's Eve or travel, so the out-of-home dining service continues to be busy.

Spring travel and Tet holiday activities of people still continue on the last day of Tet holiday along with a large number of workers in the provinces returning to big cities to prepare for work, so the goods market in big cities and tourist destinations, temples and pagodas is more vibrant. Purchasing power in the market is still mainly focused on fresh food products, vegetables of all kinds, fruits, etc. The supply of basic food products meets the needs of consumers.

Prices of goods in the supermarket system are stable, not increasing compared to the time before Tet. In traditional markets, prices of food items are lower than the previous Tet days due to increased supply. Eating out continues to increase. In general, the market moves according to normal rules, there is no phenomenon of unusual price increases.

According to the Domestic Market Department, on the 6th day of Tet, due to the end of the Tet holiday, the market will return to almost the same level as the day before Tet. Prices of goods tend to decrease slightly compared to the 5th day of Tet, some goods are still at high levels (beef, seafood) due to limited supply.
