Preserving and promoting cultural identity

According to the representative of the provincial Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, in recent years, the communes of ethnic minorities in the Southeast region of the province have received concentrated resources from the Central and the province to synchronously invest in grassroots cultural and sports institutions.

Thanks to that, currently 100% of communes in ethnic minority areas have cultural houses, 100% of villages and hamlets have community houses and maintain mass art troupes. Traditional cultural activities, festivals, and handicrafts of ethnic minorities are preserved, conserved and linked with tourism development, especially in the Cham community.

In addition, the entire area currently has 4 national relics and 4 provincial relics associated with ethnic minorities, many of which have been restored and prevented from deterioration.

Currently, Binh Thuan Museum and the Provincial Cham Cultural Exhibition Center are preserving many rare artifacts and antiques of many different types and materials of ethnic minorities in the province. The collection of Cham Royal cultural heritage is preserved at the family of the descendants of the Cham dynasty in Hong Thai commune with many relics and antiques.

In addition, some traditional cultural activities of ethnic groups, especially Cham ethnic groups, are implemented in combination with local tourism development. Brocade and ceramic products of Cham ethnic groups are regularly introduced at tourist sites, and cultural objects are displayed and introduced at festivals.

In particular, the province has been implementing a project to preserve and promote the Kate Festival of the Cham people to serve local tourism development. At the same time, it is coordinating with other provinces to build a scientific dossier on “Traditional pottery art of the Cham people” for UNESCO to include in the list of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection.

Education in mountainous areas is increasingly improving.

Education and training are identified as one of the priority areas. Up to now, the Southeast region of the province has 1 provincial-level ethnic boarding school and 4 district-level ethnic boarding schools. The school system in the ethnic minority area is increasingly spacious, aiming to meet national standards.

Thanks to synchronous investment, the quality of teaching and learning has been improved, the dropout rate has decreased significantly. The rate of mobilizing children to go to school has increased, preschool reached 99.86%, primary school 99.5%, secondary school 92.91% and high school 61.17%. 100% of communes in ethnic minority areas have met the standards of universal primary education for the right age and universal secondary school education.

In parallel with teaching and learning Vietnamese, schools also maintain teaching Cham language from 2 to 4 periods/week for all primary grades. In addition, 49 schools with ethnic minority students are enhanced with Vietnamese, reaching 100% according to the target of the Vietnamese Enhancement Project. Vocational training and recruitment of ethnic minority students are also carried out regularly.

Every year, the region coordinates with colleges and universities to organize vocational recruitment and selection according to Decree 141, creating opportunities for ethnic minority children to study, improve their qualifications, and meet the human resource requirements in the new period.

However, the ethnic minority communes in the Southeast region of the province still face many difficulties due to the scattered residential areas of the ethnic minorities; their living standards are still different from the general level of the province...

Despite many challenges, the results achieved in the fields of education, culture and society have affirmed the attention of the Party and State to ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in the Southeast region of the province.

That is also the foundation for the locality to continue implementing synchronous solutions, aiming at sustainable development, improving the material and spiritual life of the people, and consolidating the great national unity bloc.
