With breathtaking natural scenery and ethnic villages with distinctive local culture, Vietnam's Sa Pa has risen to 6th place in the list of top mountain and small town destinations in Asia.

Digital travel platform Agoda has just released a list of Asia's top mountain and small-town destinations, offering a journey away from the hustle and bustle of life and into a land of peace.

In this year's ranking, Sa Pa of Vietnam rose to 6th place in the continent, affirming its growing appeal on the international tourism map.

A mountainous area famous for its terraced fields and ethnic villages, Sa Pa captivates visitors with its distinctive local culture, alongside the breathtaking natural scenery of the Hoang Lien Son range seen from the top of Fansipan Mountain, the highest mountain in Vietnam known as the "roof of Indochina".

According to data from Agoda, searches for Sa Pa increased by 21%, demonstrating the growing appeal of this destination.

Peaceful mountain destinations, especially Sa Pa ward, are increasingly becoming ideal stops for those who wish to immerse themselves in indigenous culture and admire the pristine natural beauty.

Except for the rainy season (from June to August), Sa Pa always puts on a brilliant natural picture with the change of seasons: spring has plum and peach blossoms blooming in the mountains and forests of the Northwest; summer is filled with the green color of young rice mixed with the silver light of early morning dew, or autumn is the brilliant yellow color of terraced fields all over the valley.

In winter, Sa Pa not only appears to float in the clouds but is also covered in a layer of snow - a rare sight in a tropical climate, making this place even more magical.

The unique mountainous markets have become one of the reasons that attract domestic and international tourists. The combination of majestic nature and unique culture has made Sa Pa worthy of being one of the most attractive mountain destinations in Asia.

The rankings are based on Agoda data, compiled from accommodation searches from February 15 to August 15, 2025, in destinations with populations under 50,000 in eight Asian markets. The top three spots are occupied by Cameron Highlands (Malaysia), Khao Yai (Thailand) and Puncak (Indonesia). Fujikawaguchiko (Japan), Kenting (Taiwan-China), Sa Pa (Vietnam), Munnar (India) and Pyeongchang-gun (South Korea) are also in the top eight most popular mountain and small town destinations in Asia.

Agoda Country Director in Vietnam Vu Ngoc Lam shared: Sa Pa's presence in the Asian rankings reflects its unique landscape and diverse heritage that are increasingly conquering tourists.

"From vast terraced fields, trekking routes in the mountains and forests to unique traditional cultures, tourists are looking for authentic, rich and different experiences compared to the pace of life in big cities," added Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam.
