At the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper, 50 excellent photos were selected from 699 works by 224 authors participating in the "Ho Chi Minh City - New Colors" Photo Contest, displayed along two walkways, making viewers feel like they are entering a storytelling corridor, where Ho Chi Minh City appears with many colors, both majestic and bustling but still full of familiar simplicity through images of festivals, urban scenes, people's activities, natural areas, and the sea associated with the city.
The best works are displayed after the competition. |
This year's first prize went to the work "Strengthening" by author Nguyen Tien Anh Tuan. The photo captured the moment when 3 SU-30MK2s of the Air Defense - Air Force soared into the sky, dropping a brilliant streak of light on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. To take the photo, Mr. Tuan chose a position on the rooftop of Landmark 81, arranging two cameras in parallel. When the 3 fighter planes were flying in the air, one camera could not focus in time, but the other camera, which was remotely controlled, captured the moment the sky lit up. In the frame, the center of Ho Chi Minh City appeared brilliantly with the Ba Son Bridge spanning the Saigon River as a strong line highlighting the modernity of the City named after Uncle Ho. “On the occasion of the country’s great anniversary, I was present with hundreds of reporters from all over the country working. When my work won an award and was honored, it became an extremely memorable memory for me,” author Nguyen Tien Anh Tuan shared.
Besides the photo that won the highest prize, dozens of other works also made a strong impression. The photo "Happy Reunification Day" by Huynh Pham Anh Dung was awarded second prize, capturing the scene of colorful fireworks that filled the city's sky, while the work "Strengthening Independence Day" by Duong Cong Son won third prize, capturing the moment the parade marched in the joyful arms of the people on the occasion of the A50 anniversary. Not only focusing on big events, many works also preserve simple everyday life. That is the bright smile of a sanitation worker hanging from a high-rise building to beautify the city, children playing under the water tap in the park, or a photo capturing the tired face but bright eyes of a sanitation worker at night... All have contributed to telling the story of a Ho Chi Minh City that is both modern, strongly developing but full of closeness, warmth and love.
Photographer Nguyen A commented: “The contest took place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the Reunification of the country. Many high-quality photo collections were created and entered into the contest, demonstrating the participation and efforts of the photographers. The young authors showed creativity and clear movement in photographic thinking, knowing how to exploit everyday moments, iconic buildings as well as the breath of the city to convey profound messages about the society and people of Ho Chi Minh City. There are works that both ensure artistry and are highly topical, reflecting the vibrant pace of life as well as the peaceful silence of the city.”
