After the storm, commercial activities have returned to serve consumers.

According to the reality at some traditional markets, after storm No. 5 passed, traders returned to clean up, sanitize their stalls and sell goods to serve consumers.

The supply of essential foods such as meat, fish, and seafood meets people's needs. Prices of basic food items are stable compared to before the storm. According to a survey on August 27, pork costs from 100,000 to 120,000 VND/kg, beef 200,000 to 230,000 VND/kg, ready-made chicken 130,000 VND/kg...

In the fish and seafood area, the main items for sale are grilled fish, salted fish, frozen fish, and easily preserved seafood such as clams and mussels; the supply of fresh products is still quite limited. The basic price is the same as before the storm, specifically, large grilled mackerel is 25-35,000 VND/fish; grilled mackerel is 300,000 VND/kg; fresh pomfret is 130-180,000 VND/kg; squid is 220-250,000 VND/kg, farmed shrimp is 200-300,000 VND/kg; cut grass carp is 250,000 VND/kg...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, a fishmonger at Vuon Uom market, shared: “On the morning of August 26, I returned to sell goods after the storm but imported less than usual because at this time, I mainly sell frozen goods that have been frozen before. The prices of these items are still the same as before the storm. Many regular customers called to ask for fresh fish, but at this time there is none because fishing boats near the shore have not returned to sea yet.”

Although business has returned to normal after the storm, the number of buyers is still limited. Retailers said that after the storm, purchasing power is much lower. The reason is that most people are still focusing on cleaning up and before the storm, many people bought food in reserve. In addition, many areas still do not have electricity, so food cannot be preserved, so people are also more limited in purchasing.

Mr. Trinh Thang Loi - a dry food trader at Ha Tinh market said: "There are few people coming to the market because the demand is not high because they are still using the food bought before the storm. After the storm, some stalls were affected, traders quickly cleaned up and repaired to resume business, however, since the storm until now, the market has still had a power outage, so business activities are more difficult."

Meanwhile, the purchasing power of vegetables and fruits is better and prices have increased slightly compared to normal days. Recorded at the markets, vegetable prices have increased by about 20-50% compared to the time before the storm. Some popular types are: Malabar spinach, green mustard greens 15,000 VND/bunch; water spinach 10,000 VND/bunch; squash, cucumber, cabbage 25,000 VND/kg; green squash, green eggplant 20,000 VND/kg; tomatoes 30,000 VND/kg; lettuce 45,000 VND/kg...

Ms. Bui Thi Phuong (Thanh Sen ward) shared: “On the morning of August 27, I went to the market to buy 2 squash, 3 tomatoes, 1 pineapple, totaling 50,000 VND. Compared to normal days, this price is higher. However, after natural disasters such as storms and floods, people have become accustomed to the increase in vegetable prices because vegetables are damaged, making production and harvesting difficult.”

Traders said the reason for the price increase was that some vegetable growing areas suffered damage from storms and increased transportation costs. However, during this natural disaster, vegetable prices did not increase as dramatically as in previous periods.

“This storm is short-lived, does not cause too much flooding and only affects the North Central provinces, while the source of green vegetables serving the Ha Tinh market, in addition to locally grown vegetables, is mainly imported from Nghe An , the northern provinces and the Da Lat area. Apart from Nghe An, production in these areas is not affected, so the basic supply is enough to meet the market. However, due to the difficulty of transportation in the rainy and windy weather, the import price is higher than usual, so we also have to increase the selling price,” explained Ms. Nguyen Thi Loc, a vegetable vendor at Co Dam market (Co Dam commune).

According to traders, if the weather is favorable for restoring production and harvesting, and the transportation of goods is stable, about a week after the storm, the prices of vegetables will return to stability.
