Summary of 1 year of implementing DNA sample collection for relatives of unidentified martyrs

On the afternoon of July 25, the Ministry of Public Security held an online conference to review one year of implementing the Plan on collecting DNA samples for relatives of unidentified martyrs. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and directed the conference.

Up to now, the Ministry of Public Security has coordinated with relevant units to collect 57,273 samples of Vietnamese heroic mothers, biological mothers and relatives of martyrs nationwide.

In Quang Ninh alone, the police force has completed collecting, updating, and adjusting data of 91 martyrs and their relatives who are eligible for DNA sampling on the National Population Database system. Thus, up to this point, Quang Ninh still has 2,581 cases of unidentified martyrs' relatives who are eligible for DNA sampling and 1,020 martyrs whose relatives are no longer eligible for DNA sampling.

Colonel Nguyen Thuan, Deputy Director of the Provincial Police, presided at the Quang Ninh bridge point.

At the conference, ministries, branches and local police shared experiences in coordinating the review of martyrs' information, updating and collecting DNA samples; and mobilizing socialized funding to collect and test DNA for relatives of unidentified martyrs in the area.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and leaders of the Ministry of Home Affairs presented the Notice of results of the examination of martyrs' remains to 16 martyrs' families nationwide.

Collecting DNA samples for relatives of unidentified martyrs is a task of great political significance, a responsibility not only of the police force but also of the entire political system and society; including the cooperation, contribution and support of businesses. Linked and digitized information contributes to ensuring accuracy when collecting DNA samples for relatives of martyrs. In addition, collected and digitized information about martyrs is also a particularly important source of information to improve the verification and comparison of DNA information on martyrs' remains and DNA of relatives.
