Exporting Thaco Trailers brand semi-trailers to the US market

Strategic move

Based on the foundation of industrial production in the field of mechanical engineering and supporting industry, and exploiting the "room" of the market, since 2014, THACO INDUSTRIES has invested in research and production of semi-trailers, supplying domestically and exporting.

To meet the increasing demand, especially to welcome the "wave" of global supply chain shifts, in the following years, the group continued to invest in upgrading technology and developing the Thaco Trailers brand with the position of being the leading semi-trailer manufacturer in Vietnam.

In 2022, the Group will put into operation THACO INDUSTRIES Semi-Trailer and Heavy Components Manufacturing Company Limited (Thaco Trailers) and invest in a new factory with a capacity of 30,000 products/year, with the most modern equipment system in Southeast Asia.

The production process is closed and synchronized, through the following stages: manufacturing details, welding, painting, assembling, and inspection. The factory invests in a laser cutting system for all mechanical details and semi-trailer frames with high precision. The welding line is equipped with a fixture system and automatic welding robot with a reach of up to 2,200 mm, ensuring precise welding at all angles, and the welds meet quality and aesthetic standards.

After the welding process, the chassis frame is automatically shot blasted to clean the surface with quality meeting international standards SA-2.5, then dipped in electrostatic paint (ED) in a 17m long dipping tank. Next, the chassis frame is electrostatically powder coated by automatic paint spraying robots, helping the product surface to be smooth and glossy and highly aesthetic.

Semi-trailers are assembled on a fully automated monorail line with an AGV component supply system, controlling the tightening force throughout the process. Quality is strictly controlled at each stage, before leaving the factory, the product is tested for braking force, overall inspection and actual testing on a test track with diverse terrain.

Currently, the brand produces and supplies a variety of product configurations including: semi-trailers, flatbed semi-trailers, box semi-trailers, dump semi-trailers, specialized semi-trailers and semi-trailer components, meeting the maximum individual requirements of customers. The products are highly appreciated by customers for their light weight, high durability, flexible configuration design, helping to optimize load capacity; strong, stable operation, saving operating costs...

The semi-trailer is not only a new step in the strategy of expanding the product portfolio, but also a testament to the production capacity and intrinsic value accumulated over more than 20 years of formation and development.

Reaching out to the world market

After investing in product research and development, in 2020, Thaco Trailers exported the first batch of semi-trailers to the US market. Receiving positive feedback on product quality, meeting customer needs, the company has continuously improved, enhanced quality, diversified product configurations, penetrated this potential market with large orders, creating momentum to expand business in North American countries (Canada, Mexico).

At the same time, continue to produce and supply products suitable to the needs of other markets such as Australia, Japan, Korea... From 2020 to present, the brand has exported nearly 13,000 semi-trailers to other countries.

To step into the global "playground", conquering large markets with high requirements on quality standards and technical specifications, the company has implemented many synchronous solutions. The company focuses on exploiting resources in production capacity, technology, industrial management and digitalization applications, investing heavily in R&D activities, cooperating with reputable component suppliers in the world... to create quality products, meeting export standards (DOT, AAR, ANSI, TOFC, F(C)MVSS, SAE, TTMA...), and at the same time having diverse configurations, suitable for the needs and characteristics of each market.

Currently, Thaco Trailers continues to promote market research activities, participate in international exhibitions on semi-trailers, promote the establishment of a sales company in the United States and representative offices in Australia and Europe.

In addition, the company also invests in improving production capacity, R&D, and after-sales service to realize the goal of cooperating with existing customers to increase the output of skeleton semi-trailers in the North American market; at the same time, establishing cooperative relationships with new distributors to export components and specialized semi-trailers.

With a solid foundation of production capacity and exploitation of large demand from potential markets, the company expects to continue to increase export output, affirming the position of Vietnamese-origin semi-trailer products in the world market.
