According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Son La, each year the province generates more than 10,000 tons of plastic waste; of which 68.85% comes from households, 10.84% from businesses, 10.16% from markets, supermarkets, and shopping centers; the rest comes from medical facilities, tourism, industrial parks, agricultural activities, and other sources.

The total amount of plastic waste generated in To Hieu, Chieng Coi, Chieng An, Chieng Sinh wards (old city) is the highest, with more than 3,000 tons/year; followed by Moc Chau, Moc Son, Van Son, Thao Nguyen wards (old Moc Chau town) with more than 2,000 tons/year.

Faced with this situation, raising awareness, changing behavior, and moving towards specific actions by each individual and collective is an extremely urgent requirement. In fact, in recent years, from urban areas to highlands, the movement to protect the environment and say no to plastic waste has gradually become a daily habit in many localities. The campaigns not only contribute to cleaning the living environment, but also raise public awareness, spreading the message of responsibility and love for nature.

Responding to the Campaign to Make the World Cleaner by 2025, since the beginning of September, many communes, wards, agencies and schools in the province have implemented practical activities to beautify urban areas, clean the environment, plant trees, and create bright, green, clean and beautiful landscapes. Son La Provincial Youth Union has launched Green Sunday in conjunction with the Campaign, attracting a large number of union members and young people to participate. Continuing that tradition, today's launching ceremony is not only about sanitation and garbage collection activities, but also sends a strong message, calling on the community to live in harmony with nature and act for a sustainable future.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province, emphasized: Today's activities also have special significance when taking place in the atmosphere of emulation to achieve achievements to welcome the 16th Congress of the Son La Provincial Party Committee and the 130th anniversary of the province's founding. Promoting the role of individuals and the community, for an increasingly greener, cleaner and more beautiful Son La, continuing to spread the spirit of "Each person does a good deed, the whole world is cleaner", turning environmental protection awareness into a civilized and sustainable lifestyle. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee called on all cadres, civil servants, public employees, union members, youth and people in the province to actively implement waste classification at source; clean up right from their own families, classrooms, schools to soon eliminate plastic waste... Responding to the call, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, Principal of Binh Minh Primary, Secondary and High School, pledged: The staff, teachers, employees and students of the whole school will strongly respond to the Campaign with practical, specific and sustainable actions. Each person will become an active propagandist, spreading the message of green living to their families and the community; maintain and expand the movements "Green Sunday", "Green Classroom Corner", "Every day a beautiful action for the environment"; classify waste at source, recycle, reduce the use of disposable plastic; towards building a "School that says no to plastic waste".

On this occasion, the Department of Agriculture and Environment presented 9 waste sorting bins and 1 propaganda billboard to the school, aiming to build a model of waste sorting at source in schools.

In the exciting atmosphere of the Launching Ceremony, hundreds of students, teachers and delegates participated in a series of rich activities. They listened and learned about the origin and harmful effects of waste; how to classify at source and measures to reduce single-use plastic.

In particular, the recycled fashion show “Stride for a green environment” made a strong impression with 12 students transforming into models in unique costumes made from plastic bags, newspapers, sacks, etc., conveying the message: “Turn waste into useful resources”. Next were 03 propaganda skits from 3 classes, with familiar themes such as “A Day of Garbage”, “A Stranger Named Pollution” edited, rehearsed, and selected unique costumes from recycled materials by the students themselves, contributing to creatively arousing awareness of environmental protection.
