Not only do traditional cigarettes cause serious harm to the health of smokers and those around them, new tobacco products also cause significant impacts on the health of smokers. Currently, new tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes (E-cigarettes) and heated tobacco products are being introduced as less harmful products than conventional cigarettes. However, scientific evidence to date shows that both E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products contain toxic ingredients, and when used, they involve combustion and release smoke and vapor into the environment, causing harm to people around them.

Dr. Ho Thanh Dam, Head of the Department of Communication - Health Education , Center for Disease Control of Ca Mau province, said: "Electronic cigarettes are very diverse in shape and size, but the general structure includes a battery, a burner, a liquid chamber and a mouthpiece. Electronic cigarettes contain many toxic substances such as flavoring chemicals, metals and nicotine, so they are harmful to health. Many people often mistakenly think that electronic cigarettes are not harmful because when inhaled, they do not emit smoke or have an unpleasant smell like regular cigarettes. However, the level of danger of this product is no less than that of regular cigarettes."

E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that heat up liquid containing nicotine and create a gas for the user to inhale. E-cigarettes contain nicotine - a highly addictive substance that increases heart rate, constricts blood vessels in the heart, increases pulse and blood pressure. Nicotine affects cell proliferation and oxidative stress. This phenomenon occurs when there is an imbalance between antioxidants and free radicals, causing poor health, inefficient functioning of organs in the body, programmed cell death, DNA mutations through various mechanisms, leading to cancer.

Nicotine also contributes to tumor formation and reduces the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiotherapy on tumors.

To increase the attractiveness of the product, attract users, especially young people, manufacturers also use many types of flavors such as: mint, apple, orange, lemon... in TLĐT. According to the World Health Organization, there are currently about 16 thousand types of flavors, many of which have not been comprehensively evaluated for their level of harm to health.

The ingredients in the TLÐT solution contain carcinogens when heated and vaporized, causing dry mouth and inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. Many toxic substances and some metals found in TLÐT have levels equivalent to or higher than those in regular cigarettes.

There is increasing evidence that the use of new tobacco products affects respiratory and cardiovascular functions, increases the risk of cancer, oral and digestive diseases (most commonly epigastric pain, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and gastrointestinal bleeding)...

E-cigarette smoking increases the severity of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, especially in people who smoke both cigarettes and e-cigarettes. E-cigarette smoking can lead to vascular dysfunction, arteriosclerosis, thrombosis, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, hypertension, and a history of stroke.

The toxicity of fragrances can cause obstructive bronchitis, impaired function of innate immune cells of the respiratory tract. Heating metal coils in electronic devices when used, creates many heavy metals that are harmful to the cardiovascular system.

In addition, nicotine can put young people at risk of mood disorders, reduced impulse control and negative impacts on the parts of the brain responsible for memory and learning. In addition, electronic devices can break down, malfunction and cause fires, injuries and unsafety for users./.
