The 2025 Southeast Asian Youth Taekwondo Championship, taking place in Nha Trang ( Khanh Hoa ), bringing together 370 athletes from 9 countries in the region, is one of the important tournaments, considered a preparation step for the 33rd SEA Games to take place in Bangkok, Thailand this year. The Vietnamese delegation participated with 67 members (officials, coaches, athletes) according to the decision of the Department of Physical Training and Sports , competing in many weight categories with the determination to achieve high results.
In the overall achievements of the Vietnamese delegation, Lai Chau sports left a remarkable mark when contributing 2 excellent athletes: Nguyen Gia Nhu won the Gold Medal in the 52kg weight category for the youth; Luong Thi Thanh Trang won the Silver Medal in the 49kg weight category of the championship. This is the first time Lai Chau Taekwondo has won a Gold Medal at a regional tournament, creating a new historical milestone for the province's sports.
To achieve this result is the result of persistent training, high determination of the athletes and the dedicated guidance of coach Nguyen Van Hung - who is currently the sole coach of Taekwondo in the province. In the context of many difficulties in terms of facilities and resources, this victory becomes more meaningful and proud than ever.
Over the years, Taekwondo has always been one of Lai Chau's high-performance sports, contributing many medals at national and international tournaments. However, Nguyen Gia Nhu's Gold Medal at this tournament has a special meaning, affirming the remarkable growth of the local Taekwondo movement and opening up new expectations for Lai Chau sports in larger arenas.
The achievements of Nguyen Gia Nhu and Luong Thi Thanh Trang not only bring pride to the province, but also contribute to promoting the Taekwondo movement in particular and sports in general in the whole province, especially among young people. Currently, the Taekwondo movement in Lai Chau is growing stronger and stronger, attracting a large number of participants at clubs, promising to continue to discover and nurture many talents, affirming Lai Chau's position on the regional and national sports map.
