Strengthening the fight against smuggling in border areas and at sea

The Steering Committee 389 of Mong Cai City has directed functional forces to strengthen patrolling, controlling, fighting and eliminating smuggling and transporting lines, preventing the formation of smuggling and trade fraud hotspots in the area. Member units of the Steering Committee 389 of the city have closely followed the mission objectives, regularly inspected and controlled key areas, fought against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, preventing the formation of large smuggling, transporting and harboring smuggling and counterfeit goods in the area.

On the sea route, from October 2023 to the end of September 2024, Tra Co Border Guard Station arrested 27 cases/50 subjects/24 vehicles related to criminal activities, smuggling, and illegal transportation of goods; seized evidence included: 0.641 grams of methamphetamine (crystal meth), 23.5 kg of firecrackers, 28,840 packs of cigarettes, 17,760 breeding poultry, 29,400 chicken eggs, 78 bottles of foreign wine, 960 kg of flower mussels, 60 kg of fish bladders, 250 kg of earthworms, 50 kg of rosewood, 450 kg of frozen pork belly, 285 kg of mantis shrimp... The unit has criminally prosecuted 4 cases/12 subjects.

From December 2023 to present, through patrolling and controlling at sea, Van Gia Port Border Gate Border Post has arrested and criminally prosecuted 1 case/1 vehicle/1 subject related to smuggling and illegal transportation of 1,592 kg of finished sturgeon in the border area; arrested and administratively prosecuted 57 cases/57 subjects/54 vehicles related to illegal fishing and illegal transportation of aquatic products on the border.

On the land border, the authorities have also increased patrols and controls to prevent smuggling and illegal transportation of goods. Since the beginning of the year, Bac Son Border Guard Station has arrested 13 cases/14 subjects; of which 1 case/1 subject was criminally prosecuted for possessing 1.5 grams of methamphetamine; 1 case/3 subjects for illegally transporting 335 phones, 4 tablets, and 30 phone screens across the border.

According to the report of Steering Committee 389 of Mong Cai City, from December 16, 2023 to September 15, 2024, functional forces in the city arrested and handled 423 cases/428 subjects related to smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, with a value of goods of more than 14.3 billion VND (an increase of 10.44% in the number of cases, an increase of 125.67% in value compared to the same period in 2023).

The authorities have handled 12 criminal cases/19 subjects, including 1 case/1 subject smuggling, illegally transporting 6,820 packs of cigarettes; 4 cases/7 subjects illegally transporting 54.5kg of firecrackers; 3 cases/3 subjects illegally transporting more than 1.1 billion VND in Chinese and Vietnamese currency across the border; 1 case/3 subjects smuggling mobile phones, tablets and mobile phone accessories, with goods worth more than 1.7 billion VND. Handled 411 administrative violations, fined more than 6.1 billion VND; liquidated goods liquidation proceeds of more than 1.8 billion VND; additional fines and tax collection of more than 4.2 billion VND.
