Increase production of delicious and specialty rice varieties

(CT) - Up to now, farmers in communes and wards in Can Tho city have planted 717,453 hectares of rice in 2025, reaching 103.17% of the plan and have harvested more than 525,616 hectares, with an estimated yield of 68.15 quintals/hectare, and an output of over 3.58 million tons, reaching 79.85% of the plan. Specifically, the 2024-2025 winter-spring rice crop has been planted on 327,460 hectares, reaching 104.3% of the plan. The 2024-2025 summer-autumn rice crop has been planted on 10,607 hectares, reaching 106.07% of the plan. The 2025 summer-autumn rice crop has been planted on 284,320 hectares, reaching 100.8% of the plan. The 2025 autumn-winter rice crop has now reached 95,066 hectares, reaching 106.5% of the plan.

Dai Thom 8 rice is produced in Truong Xuan commune, Can Tho city in the winter-spring crop.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, farmers in the city have increased production of delicious and specialty rice varieties in many rice crops in 2025. The group of specialty and fragrant rice (ST, Dai Thom 8, RVT...) accounts for about 40%, 2% higher than in 2024, concentrated in the winter-spring, summer-autumn and summer-autumn crops. The group of high-quality varieties (OM 545, OM 18, OM 380...) continues to account for a high proportion in the variety structure of many rice crops, especially the summer-autumn and autumn-winter crops. The group of medium quality (IR 50404) accounts for only about 1%, scattered in the 3 winter-spring, summer-autumn and autumn-winter crops.
