Economic growth accelerates, highest in 15 years

Vietnam's GDP growth is the highest in the region.

The information was announced by Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of the General Statistics Office, at a press conference to announce socio-economic statistics for the second quarter and the first 6 months of 2025, organized by this agency on July 5 in Hanoi .

Previously, the GDP growth rate in the first half of the 2021-2025 period reached 5.71%, 7.01%, 3.91%, 6.64%, 7.52%, respectively.

Data released by the national statistics agency shows that GDP in the second quarter of 2025 grew positively, with an estimated growth rate of 7.96% over the same period last year.

In the total added value increase of the whole economy, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.84%, contributing 5.59%, the industry and construction sector increased by 8.33%, contributing 42.2%, the service sector increased by 8.14%, contributing 52.21%.

Assessing the economic growth rate in the first 6 months of the year, Ms. Huong said that Vietnam's growth rate was the highest in Southeast Asia, in which the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector and the agricultural sector maintained stable growth, meeting domestic consumption demand and serving exports.

In the industrial and construction sector, the industry achieved high growth, the added value of the entire industry in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 8.07%, the construction industry increased by 9.62%.

Meanwhile, the added value of the service sector in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 8.14% over the same period last year, the highest increase over the same period in the past 5 years.

Regarding the economic structure in the first 6 months of 2025, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounts for 11.2%, the industry and construction sector accounts for 36.9%, the service sector accounts for 43.4%, and product taxes minus product subsidies account for 8.3%.

Newly established businesses increase to a record level

Also according to the General Statistics Office, in June 2025, the whole country had more than 24,400 newly established enterprises, with registered capital of nearly 176,800 billion VND and registered labor of nearly 137,200 workers.

Besides, 14,400 enterprises returned to operation, an increase of 91.1% over the same period in 2024.

In the first 6 months of this year, the whole country had 91,200 newly registered enterprises with a total registered capital of nearly 820,900 billion VND and a total registered number of nearly 591,100 employees, an increase of 11.8% in the number of enterprises, 9.9% in registered capital and 13.9% in the number of employees compared to the same period last year.

The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in the first six months of 2025 reached 9 billion VND, down 1.7% over the same period in 2024.

On average, nearly 25,500 new businesses are established and return to operation each month.

Also in 6 months, the number of enterprises temporarily suspending business for a period of time was more than 80,800, the number of enterprises temporarily suspending operations pending dissolution procedures was more than 34,000, the number of enterprises completing dissolution procedures was 12,300, an increase of 23.3%.

On average, nearly 21,200 businesses withdraw from the market each month.

Half-year trade surplus reaches over 7.6 billion USD

Total retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue in the first 6 months of 2025 at current prices is estimated at VND 3,416,800 billion, up 9.3% over the same period last year.

International visitors to Vietnam in the first 6 months of this year were nearly 10.7 million, an increase of 20.7% over the same period last year.

In June alone, international tourists to Vietnam reached 1.46 million arrivals, an increase of 17.1% over the same period last year.

Regarding import and export, in the first 6 months of 2025, the total import and export turnover of goods reached about 432 billion USD, an increase of 16.1% over the same period last year.

Of which, exports increased by 14.4%, imports increased by 17.9%, trade balance of goods had a surplus of 7.63 billion USD.

The consumer price index (CPI) in June 2025 increased by 0.48% over the previous month, mainly due to the unusually high prices of housing maintenance materials, especially sand, stone, and bricks, and gasoline prices increasing following world fuel prices.

Average CPI in the second quarter of 2025 increased by 3.31%, average CPI in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 3.27% over the same period last year.
