Vietnamese mark at Sing!Asia 2025
Sing!Asia 2025 is a regional music program in Asia held in China, gathering talented young singers from Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia... This music playground is not only a place for artists to show off their singing skills but also a meeting point for diverse cultures, where national identity is revealed through music - a language without borders.
Phuong My Chi is the artist representing Vietnam to compete with contestants from other countries. Originally known as a child singer of folk songs, Phuong My Chi has grown and developed more strongly in her music career, especially in traditional music. When confirming her participation in the contest, the female singer confided: "For me, every time I stand on stage to perform is a precious opportunity to show my international friends that Vietnam is a beautiful, culturally rich and very hospitable country."

Her performances at Sing!Asia 2025 impressed with their strong Vietnamese folk culture, receiving many positive reactions through the works Buon Trang, Rock Hat Gao, mashup Ly Bac Bo & Day Xe Bo (a song composed specifically for Phuong My Chi). And recently, the song Bong Phu Hoa left a deep impression on the program. Bong Phu Hoa was inspired by The Story of a Nam Xuong Girl - an outstanding work of Vietnamese literature, a combination of contemporary music and traditional cultural spirit, gentle yet profound, familiar yet new.
In particular, the young singer sang a part of the song in Chinese while still maintaining a graceful tone and expressive voice, surprising and delighting the audience. Her translation of a part of the performance into a foreign language shows her effort to connect, not reducing the value of Vietnamese identity but also spreading the spirit internationally.
Phuong My Chi's representative said: "When coming to the contest, from the beginning Chi set the goal of promoting the image of Vietnamese culture internationally. She is very aware that receiving the support and love of the audience is a privilege, and the artist must use that privilege in the most useful way possible."
Vietnamese identity in the world music market
It is not new for domestic artists to try to conquer the world music scene, such as Dan Truong, Ha Tran, Ho Quynh Huong,... who have "crossed over" to release albums and perform music abroad. In fact, domestic artists who go out into the world face many challenges, one of which is finding their strengths and musical direction to compete. In an international music market that is inherently competitive, Vietnamese artists have made great efforts but have not really created a breakthrough.

Nowadays, artists, especially young artists, are gradually finding an effective way to conquer the world audience. That is to exploit compositions imbued with traditional cultural colors, with their own unique features. Especially works that combine folk sounds with modern style.
We can mention the resounding successes, such as: Bac Bling by Hoa Minzy, Let Mi tell you, See love by Hoang Thuy Linh... The skillful use of traditional materials in music and art in general has attracted attention, aroused the love and exploration of national culture in the hearts of audiences, especially young people. This is also a potential development direction of Vietnamese music to shape its own identity, confidently going far on the world music map.
No matter how far Phuong My Chi's journey at Sing!Asia 2025 goes, what the young singer has shown and received support from the international public has shown the results and the right direction when she is steadfast in traditional music, affirming her own character and mark. This is a positive signal for today's young artists to follow the previous generation, actively creating and participating in art, while preserving national identity.
