Artist Thanh Loc repeatedly hinted and revealed to the audience about the Vietnamese songs that he will sing with the group Impact Theatre Saigon (ITS) in the show Lights, Camera, Broadway! on Thien Dang stage on the evening of May 10.
In the three official performances of ITS here, twice artist Thanh Loc was the narrator for the concert. And each time, interspersed between songs from foreign musicals were Vietnamese songs.
I am Vietnamese
More than half a year ago, on Lights on Broadway, the musical night marked For the first time, ITS met with a large audience of theater lovers in general and Thien Dang's audience in particular. Artist Thanh Loc and ITS sang the song "I, a blind person " from Fairy Russia Musical.
"The people of the South have always suffered but their virtue is noble. Even though it is dark, their conscience is still bright. The ink we write is the resilient blood flowing in the hearts of many generations of heroes who fell for life...
I am Vietnamese, kind-hearted Vietnamese who do not want war. I am Vietnamese, gentle and warm Vietnamese like alluvial soil..." - quoted from Me, a blind person.
Each Vietnamese song, about Vietnamese people, echoed in a Broadway-inspired musical night with many foreign audiences.
At this year's Lights, Camera, Broadway! concert , it happened again .

Thanh Loc: Let me join in
Before singing along with ITS in the songs Co chang trai viet len cay, Goc toi ..., Thanh Loc jokingly said: "ITS doesn't just sing English musicals? Listen, Jay (ITS leader - PV), I suddenly saw you guys dancing and singing so happily, let me join in.

I'm here as a narrator, but how my singing goes is up to you... to decide.
I'm not a singer, I just want to tell you a Vietnamese story...".
Jay-Thien Nguyen, leader of ITS, told Tuoi Tre Online why there is always something very Vietnamese about most of the group's musicals:
"We were extremely proud and moved to sing loudly with Thanh Loc: We are Vietnamese.
I hope to do international musicals but not forget Vietnamese works.
We want to sing in the language we speak every day so that foreign audiences know that we are Vietnamese musical actors.
That these young people are capable of performing international musicals but also not straying from their roots or the things that make them who they are."
A million dreams for the world we create
Confiding with Tuoi Tre Online , Jay Thien Nguyen said that among the musical film soundtracks performed this time, he was most moved by the opening song A Million Dreams from the musical film The Greatest Showman .
This is a film with a message about the courage to overcome prejudice of those considered "freaks" and the journey to pursue the dream of the main character PT Barnum. Everyone has a dream, the right to love and be loved.
"The moment the ITS members sat together and started singing, it was like everyone was sharing a common dream.
Exactly one year ago, we performed together on a small stage, and we never expected that just a few months later we would have the opportunity to perform at Thien Dang. It was a dream beyond imagination" - Jay shared.

ITS is like the characters in The Greatest Showman in that they have a dream of creating a community, a band doing what they love.
"When everyone joins in and sings: "Million dreams for the world we're gonna make".
For me, it could be a future where people can perform musicals every month, every week. People can consider this a profession and proudly go out into the world, saying that in Vietnam there are also famous musicals."
