From the perspective of experts, in recent years, the need for financial education in Vietnam has become urgent, especially when the size of the financial market (including banking, securities, insurance) is now three times the size of the economy , with an average growth rate of 14%/year from 2021 to present.
However, financial education programs in Vietnam are still quite late compared to the development speed of the economy and financial market. This poses a challenge in improving the community's understanding and skills in personal financial management, including asset management, investment, risk control, etc.
Currently, only about 30% of Vietnamese adults have financial knowledge, lower than the ASEAN average of 38%. Young people, despite being exposed to the internet and technology every day, are still among the most vulnerable to fraud in cyberspace.
This is also the force that has begun to approach money more (earning money, saving, investing). However, young people, especially Gen Z (12-27 years old), are struggling with money, surrounded by black credit and financial crimes.
Mr. Pham Luu Hung, Chief Economist and Head of Training and Development Department of SSI Securities Corporation, affirmed that personal finance has become a very important life skill and investment education activities are very urgent in market development.
Associate Professor Dr. Do Hoai Linh, a member of the Professional Council, hopes that the program will be the key to help young people open the door to personal financial knowledge. According to this expert, personal financial training should be as early as possible. Knowledge trained early will transform into wisdom over time, and when combined with experience, that wisdom will enable each individual to master money.
Dr. Can Van Luc, Chief Economist of BIDV, also added that for Gen Z, when facing personal financial problems, many problems will arise, such as losing money, investing in multi-level marketing, being scammed... Therefore, he always hopes that Vietnam will have many programs to help people earn money, spend money and invest money more intelligently.
