At the end of the literature exam for the 2025 high school graduation exam, many candidates in Phu Yen expressed their joy when the exam questions matched their wishes.
Arousing patriotism and national unity
According to many candidates, this year's exam questions were excerpts from Nguyen Minh Chau's work Different Sky Regions and two verses from Che Lan Vien's poem Song of the Ship . The structure of the questions evoked deep thoughts about the bond between people and their homeland, in the context of the country's many changes, including the policy of merging Phu Yen and Dak Lak provinces.
“When we are here, it is just a place we are here/ When we leave, the land suddenly becomes our soul!”, these are familiar verses, but for many students, today they resonated with emotion. They said that the exam was not simply a test of literary knowledge, but also a humane reminder, awakening love for one’s homeland and civic awareness in the face of the country’s great changes.

Contestant Phan Kim Anh, a student at Duy Tan High School (Tuy Hoa City), choked up and shared: “When I read the excerpt and two lines of poetry, I couldn’t hold back my tears. Phu Yen merged with Dak Lak, everyone has some thoughts about the land where they were born and grew up. But I think the merger opens up new opportunities for development. No matter where we are, we still live together under the same sky of the Fatherland.”
Nguyen Tien Thanh, a student at Duy Tan High School, said that this year's literature exam was in-depth, testing literary knowledge while also arousing patriotism and national unity.
"The work Different Skies by Nguyen Minh Chau affirms that even when people leave, they still leave behind a part of their soul, while Che Lan Vien affirms that land is not only where we live, but also a place of attachment, memories, and soul. Both works raise the question when space changes, when administrative boundaries change, what remains? My answer is love for the homeland and the responsibility to preserve and develop it," Tien Thanh shared.
Candidates in Phu Yen said that the literature exam was very practical and relevant.

This year's essay is not simply a test of knowledge.
For today's youth, in the context of the country entering an era of deep integration and strong reform, responsibility does not stop at preserving identity, but also renewing thinking, uniting in diversity and contributing to the common good. Changing the name of a locality does not destroy identity, but on the contrary, opens up opportunities to create a new, more tolerant, more modern appearance and towards a more powerful nation.
Many candidates in Phu Yen shared after the exam that this year's essay topic is not simply a knowledge test, but an invitation for young people to join hands with the nation's destiny. That is when each individual knows how to connect emotions with reason, knows how to turn nostalgia into motivation and knows how to preserve the soul of the homeland in every step forward.
