On December 18, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a delegation of aerospace, defense, and security businesses from the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) who visited and worked in Vietnam on the occasion of the 2nd International Defense Exhibition 2024 organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense .
The delegation was led by Mr. Brian McFeeters (senior vice president and regional managing director of USABC) and Ms. Imelda Martin-Hum (president and CEO of IM Systems Corporation).
Many similarities in vision, opportunities for cooperation
Also participating in the delegation were representatives from Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Bell Textron, A2G (Air to Ground), AeroVironment, Atmo, Blue Halo, IMSG, Loading Republic, Oliver Wyman, Realtime Robotics, R-MOR, and Stick Rudder Enterprises.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the USABC's delegation of aerospace, defense and security enterprises participating in the exhibition. This is an important event, a prominent activity in the series of events celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the Vietnam National Defense Day.
The Prime Minister said that the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, after one year of establishment, continues to develop in depth and substance. Bilateral political relations are at their best since the normalization of relations (in 1995) and the two countries are looking forward to celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
According to the Prime Minister, economic, trade and investment cooperation is the focus and driving force in the relationship between the two countries. The potential for cooperation in this field is still very large and has many meanings for the relationship between the two countries. This contributes to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
With the target of double-digit growth each year, the Prime Minister emphasized the exploitation of new development spaces, the development of new industries and fields. These include outer space, aviation economy, marine space (such as wind energy, solar energy, etc.), underground space.
This shows that the vision and orientation of the US businesses attending the meeting have many similarities, consistent with the orientation and trends of Vietnam. Therefore, the Prime Minister suggested that USABC and US businesses continue to exchange and work closely to promote cooperation.
Especially trade, technology transfer, investment, production in Vietnam. Training high-quality human resources for emerging industries, cooperation to improve smart management capacity, support in terms of capital. Expanding cooperation, realizing opportunities in the spirit of "harmonious benefits, shared risks".
US businesses assess many opportunities for defense cooperation
Vietnam commits to ensuring the legitimate and legal rights and interests of investors; at the same time, maintaining a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developing environment, firmly protecting the country's independence and sovereignty so that investors can feel secure in making sustainable, long-term and effective investments.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister asked USABC and businesses to speak up with the US government to support the enhancement of sustainable economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries; early recognition of market economy status and removal of Vietnam from the list of high-tech export restrictions.
Mr. Brian McFeeters and members of the delegation congratulated Vietnam on organizing the International Defense Exhibition 2024. This is an opportunity for US corporations to exchange, work and cooperate with agencies, organizations and enterprises in the Vietnamese defense industry. Enterprises will also continue to support Vietnam in potential and strategic fields, as well as provide practical support for the development of bilateral relations.
The delegation members also highly appreciated Vietnam’s achievements and great development potential, especially its ability to adapt to the new context. In light of the progress in bilateral relations, businesses affirmed that the potential for cooperation between the two countries is still very large.
Accordingly, leaders of US corporations expressed their continued support for Vietnam in its development process, their desire to continue promoting their role as a bridge between the two countries and to expand their investment. They will strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese partners and actively contribute to promoting the bilateral relationship to become increasingly deeper, more substantial and effective.
