Identifying sustainable poverty reduction as one of the important tasks, in recent times, Thuy Lieu commune, Cam Khe district has implemented many synchronous solutions, in which communication is considered an important task to help the poor grasp, understand correctly and fully about support policies, thereby accessing resources to escape poverty.
Propagating contents about poverty reduction programs, economic development, production models... through commune radio stations.
Information poverty not only greatly affects the ability to access the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws in implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction (Program), but also causes a lack of information on life, economy and society. Therefore, to compensate for the information shortage, the Program has set the key task of communication and information poverty reduction (Project 6). The goal of the Project is to strengthen communication, raise awareness and responsibility of the whole society on multidimensional, inclusive and sustainable poverty reduction to arouse the spirit of self-reliance and self-reliance to escape poverty of people and communities; improve the ability to access and benefit from legal aid, mobilize resources to implement the goal of sustainable poverty reduction; propagate typical examples, initiatives and good models on poverty reduction to promote, replicate and spread in the community. Immediately after the District People's Committee issued Plan No. 1295/KH-UBND on "Implementing Sub-project 1: Reducing information poverty under Project 6 - Communication and reducing information poverty in 2024", the People's Committee of Thuy Lieu commune has strengthened communication, raised awareness and responsibility of people about multidimensional poverty reduction to arouse the spirit of self-reliance and self-reliance to escape poverty sustainably.
To implement the Program to achieve the set goals, Party committees at all levels, authorities, sectors, the Fatherland Front, and local socio -political organizations have actively and synchronously deployed many key solutions and tasks, issued documents, guidelines, and plans to propagate, educate, and raise awareness for officials and people about the Program. Many communication activities to reduce information poverty have been deployed in 6/6 residential areas for 1,285 households, contributing to the effective implementation of the goal of sustainable poverty reduction.
Having been working as a radio announcer for the commune for 2 years now, whether it is summer or winter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy is still present at the commune People's Committee before 6 am to turn on the loudspeaker, broadcasting local news to each area through 10 loudspeaker clusters. Ms. Thuy said: "Every day, the commune's loudspeaker system will relay the broadcast of the District Center for Culture , Sports, Tourism and Communications during the time frame of 6 am - 6:30 am and 5 pm - 6 pm. The commune's news will be broadcast before and after the district's relay. In the local news, many articles and articles promote the content of poverty reduction programs, economic development, production models, examples of overcoming difficulties and escaping poverty... Thereby, contributing to raising people's awareness of adapting to the market economy, producing goods and having the mindset and will to do business to rise up and escape poverty sustainably".
Along with broadcasting activities, the commune also established community Zalo groups to convey instructions from the district and commune authorities to the people. Currently, 60% of households in the areas have connected to the Zalo group to update information promptly and accurately. The commune police maintain a community Zalo group with nearly 1,000 members regularly transmitting information on traffic safety and security and order at the grassroots level. Since then, many poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households in the commune have updated information from the media, newspapers, radio, social networks, etc. to learn experiences in farming and livestock farming, effective economic models, and useful knowledge to apply in production. Mr. Nguyen Van Minh in Zone 2 shared: “Every morning I listen to information on the commune radio station about the policies of the Party and the State, typical examples of good economic performance... My family members and I also have smartphones and subscribe to 4G network to read newspapers and watch news on the Internet. Through reading newspapers and listening to the radio, I have found a job that suits my family's conditions and circumstances, bringing in a stable income.”
Information communication and poverty reduction work has made an important contribution to helping the locality successfully implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the 2021-2025 period. Up to now, the rate of poor households in the commune has decreased to 4.6%; near-poor households have decreased to 5.3%. Average income reached 48 million VND/person/year.
