According to RT, President Trump's comments came just hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly that he would "complete the mission" to eliminate Hamas from the strip of land.

"I think we can have a deal on Gaza, and very close to a deal on Gaza," President Trump told reporters at the White House on September 26.

"I think this deal will help the hostages get freed. This will be an agreement to end the war," the White House boss added.

It is known that President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu are expected to meet in Washington on September 29.

Earlier this week, Trump and senior US officials presented a 21-point peace plan to Arab and Muslim leaders, according to US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. According to media sources, the plan calls for a permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, a new Gaza administration without Hamas, and a phased Israeli withdrawal.

"I think this addresses the concerns of Israel, as well as all of its neighbors in the region. And we are hopeful, I would even say confident, that in the coming days we will be able to announce some breakthroughs," Mr. Witkoff said.

According to RT, Trump's views on Gaza's future are inconsistent. In March 2025, Trump declared that "no one will expel any Palestinian" from the strip, but then in May he reaffirmed his desire for the US to take over the territory and "turn it into a free zone", calling on residents to leave.

However, ahead of Netanyahu's speech to the United Nations on September 26, President Trump said he would not allow the annexation of the occupied West Bank, rejecting calls from some far-right politicians in Israel to extend sovereignty over the area. "It's not going to happen," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, adding: "Enough is enough. It's time to stop."

Prime Minister Netanyahu is understood to have signed a controversial settlement expansion plan in the West Bank this month.
