In the era of explosive application of strategic technologies such as AI, IoT, Big Data, Cloud, Blockchain, semiconductors, 5G and 6G, Vietnam has identified that a strong digital infrastructure is a prerequisite to master and effectively exploit these technologies (Strategy for digital infrastructure development to 2025, vision to 2030).
According to Mr. Vu Hoang Lien, Chairman of the Vietnam Internet Association: By 2025, Vietnam will have more than 80 million Internet users. The IPv6 deployment rate has exceeded 60%, placing Vietnam in second place in the ASEAN region and ninth globally. Vietnam is also preparing to enter the IPv6-only phase from 2026 to 2030.
According to the VNCDC 2024 Report (Vietnam Cloud Computing and Data Center Club), the cloud computing market in Vietnam reached nearly VND 19,375 billion (equivalent to USD 775 million) in 2024, expected to increase to USD 1.24 billion in 2025 and double in 2029. In addition, data center capacity is growing strongly, from 45MW in 2024, it is forecast to increase to 525MW in 2025 and nearly 1,000MW in 2030. Revenue from colocation services is also expected to reach USD 1.4 billion in 2030.

These impressive figures confirm Vietnam’s rapid progress, but also show many challenges that need to be faced, from investment resources, green standards, cybersecurity, data sovereignty , to core R&D capabilities. Therefore, creating a sustainable digital infrastructure will be the foundation for Vietnam to master strategic technologies.
Promoting the data industry in Vietnam
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, Chief of Office of the National Data Association, emphasized the role of data in the new era. She clearly stated her determination to realize the 7 key tasks assigned at the National Congress of the National Data Association, focusing on 3 pillars: standardizing national data architecture, developing a technology platform owned by Vietnamese people and building high-quality human resources through the announcement of the establishment of a global network of data experts. In addition, Ms. Ngoc Dung also pointed out the major "bottlenecks" that hinder development, from digital infrastructure, energy, and gradually forming macro policies to human resources and a nascent data market.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung emphasized: “The race ahead is a marathon for the entire nation. There will be decisive turns, but with the Party's leadership, with the will of the business community, experts, and people, we will reach the finish line as expected: a Vietnam that masters digital infrastructure, masters strategic technology, and masters its own data future.”
The challenge of AI infrastructure
New technologies such as artificial intelligence are reshaping the world's needs. Artificial intelligence (AI) is not only a trend but also a core driving force for global socio -economic development. With the power of data analysis, prediction and providing optimal solutions, AI is one of the priority areas in the national development strategy and is implementing policies to support research, technology development, and digital infrastructure construction.
Today's world- class AI infrastructure requires real-time, efficient, and strategic connections.

However, to be “safe” in the AI era, Mr. Vladimir Kangin, Founder and Director of IPTP Networks, said that Vietnam needs to learn from international experience and practical strategies to strengthen digital platforms, optimize data centers and become the next AI center of ASEAN.
Mr. Trinh Quoc An, security consultant, CMC Telecom also pointed out the challenges facing cybersecurity in the AI era. He affirmed that Vietnam needs comprehensive strategies and solutions to be able to proactively defend in the AI boom era.
