Ha Long City: Creating green landscape for tourism development

“Ha Long - City of Flowers” is a unique project that Ha Long City has built and is being implemented. However, the recent storm No. 3 with its great destructive power has broken many trees and flowers in the city. Currently, the city is mobilizing all forces to join hands to plant many new trees, build flower roads, and "decorate" the city's landscape to be more brilliant.

With the goal of creating a beautiful, classy urban landscape, attracting domestic and foreign tourists, and improving the quality of life of the people, on July 25, 2024, Ha Long City approved the Project "Ha Long - City of Flowers", the total cost of implementing the Project for the 2024-2025 period is over 43 billion VND, and for the 2026-2030 period is about 270 billion VND.

Accordingly, creating and building the brand identity of "Ha Long - City of Flowers" associated with "Ha Long - City of Festivals" to combine to create new tourism products, contributing to attracting tourists to Ha Long. At the same time, mobilizing the participation, active and responsible participation of collectives, organizations, businesses and people in joining hands to build and develop the city's tourism industry, with the highlight being the four-season flowers combined with festivals held all year round.

The city has proposed a number of models, such as: "Flower Street - Flower Street", "Flower Spot", "Flower Bay", "Flower Village", "Flower Layer". The types of trees and flowers proposed in the project are all typical of the city or species suitable for local climate and soil conditions. In addition, organize competitions such as "Beautiful Flower Trees", "Gates and Fences with Beautiful Climbing Flowers", "Beautiful Campus of Headquarters of Agencies and Units"; propagate and mobilize each household in the area to plant at least 3-5 flowering trees in their family grounds.

Storm No. 3 has severely damaged Ha Long urban area, especially the green tree system. In order to re-launch this project, the city mobilized the entire political system and people to organize cleaning, protection and rebuilding of trees on the streets. At the same time, working with specialized consulting units, experts on trees and urban landscapes to consult and evaluate as a basis for supplementing and perfecting the plan to plant shade trees, landscape trees, and flowering trees in the area in conjunction with the development of the project "Developing urban green trees to 2030" to effectively implement the project "Ha Long - City of Flowers".

Ms. Phan Thi Hai Huong, Head of the Propaganda Department of the Ha Long City Party Committee, said: The city has assigned relevant units to organize propaganda, mobilize villages, hamlets, neighborhoods, residential groups and organizations and individuals in the area to join hands in implementation. Nearly 65,000 people were mobilized to overcome the consequences after the storm, over 1,000 means of transport, 922 chainsaws, nearly 600 volunteer groups in villages and neighborhoods were activated with thousands of participants to clean up. Many trees were erected and carefully pruned to help the trees grow again. The city has called on residential areas, units and organizations to continue planting new trees on roads and public areas to soon realize the goal of "City of flowers, city of green".

In addition, the City People's Committee has invited and worked with representatives of a number of prestigious units and experts on trees and urban landscapes to survey and make a preliminary assessment of the current status of urban trees in the area and consult on the implementation of research on alternative and supplementary planting plans. Experts have identified a number of basic tree species suitable for the climate and soil conditions, with good resistance to storms, including: Lagerstroemia, yellow bell, Northwest purple ban, royal poinciana, black star, mango, Taiwan banyan, date palm, palm and coconut. At the same time, there are plans to take advantage of unsuitable trees, replace them to ensure savings and avoid waste.

According to the report of Ha Long City, up to now, 12 communes and wards have mobilized and registered to deploy 29 flower routes, 36 streets with typical flowers, and planted additional flower trees in the premises of 53 headquarters of agencies and units. Localities in the city have simultaneously launched the planting of new trees and flowers. In Cao Thang Ward, over 300 cadres, party members, union members, teachers, students and people participated in the launching ceremony of planting new trees, adding and replacing over 100 green trees and flowering trees in the ward; planting 100 Lagerstroemia trees in Urban Area 507 and Duc Hoang Project Urban Area.

The People's Committee of Hong Ha Ward also planted 30 Taiwanese banyan trees on the streets. In addition, in Ha Khau Ward, the ward's officials and people planted 1,700 flowers and trees of all kinds along the road from Group 52 to Group 55, Zone 5, mainly bougainvillea, yellow trumpet vine, peony, five-color flower, yellow oriole, and apricot blossom...
