Awarding 318 scholarships to encourage talents for students in Ho Chi Minh City

On October 27, at the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Hall, the Talent Encouragement Scholarship (1&1 scholarship) awarding ceremony took place for 318 students who overcame difficulties to study.

Supporting thousands of students

In the 2024-2025 school year, the 1&1 scholarship awarded 1,640,000,000 VND to 318 students who overcame difficulties to study well in Ho Chi Minh City.

Of these, 77 students received the scholarship for the first time, and 241 students continued to receive the scholarship for subsequent times (from the 2nd to the 6th time) throughout their university years.

Scholarships are awarded to students who have overcome difficulties to study well, with the aim of supporting students to overcome difficulties in life, reaching their dreams of developing their talents to serve the country.

At the ceremony, delegates also presented flowers to congratulate 84 students who graduated and matured thanks to receiving scholarships from the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Promoting Education.

Associate Professor Dr. Truong Thi Hien - Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education - said that the 1&1 scholarship is a scholarship from the heart, contributing to the cause of building a learning society in the city.

"We see this as a connection full of love and responsibility, coming from the hearts of the sponsors. The scholarship is valuable when it has the participation of many people, carrying the affection of the families.

"Promoting the spirit and responsibility of students, they have tried very hard in their studies and achieved results. The successes they have achieved are very valuable, including the efforts, contributions full of love and responsibility of benefactors" - Ms. Hien said.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Nhan - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Council - highly appreciated the significance and practical results of the scholarship to encourage learning and talent.

"The scholarship has helped thousands of excellent students in difficult circumstances. The Association also cares about cultivating moral qualities and training skills for students. The scholarship also attracts more and more individuals at home and abroad. It is worth noting that the scholarship attracts many young people from those who go before to help those who come after.

The Association for the Promotion of Education continues to promote its role and proactively cooperate with other sectors to effectively organize the promotion of education and talents in the city. Building a learning society with a focus on promoting the lifelong learning movement. Not allowing any student with difficulties to drop out of school" - Mr. Nhan affirmed.

Support students throughout their studies

Orphaned by both parents, Do Minh Tri (student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy) couldn't help but be happy when receiving sponsorship from Nguyen Khanh Dang.

"I am honored to receive the scholarship, this is a great source of motivation to help me believe in myself and constantly develop. The care and enthusiasm of the teachers make me clearly feel the power of faith and hope, lighting up the path we are on.

We are students with difficult circumstances, all carrying burning dreams and ambitions. No matter what the circumstances, I am determined to overcome obstacles to go to school, study and build a bright future" - Tri confided.

Once a scholarship student, Nguyen Khanh Dang (Nike employee) said he has returned to help other students for nearly 19 years.

"I realize that difficulties are only temporary, at a certain point in life there will be someone to help you overcome difficulties. We will pay attention to the children, call them every 3-6 months to ask about their progress and encourage them, and this is a spiritual support for them to move forward" - Mr. Dang said.

"This scholarship fund is very meaningful to me. In addition to the material value, during the 4 years of receiving the scholarship, I have always received spiritual support from the benefactor. Besides, the fund also has a club for disadvantaged students, which helps me expand my relationships and support me in finding part-time jobs" - Ngo Tuong Vy, a graduate student at Saigon University, shared.

More than 27 billion VND to support students

The scholarship for talent encouragement, also known as "1&1 Scholarship", is implemented in a way where a benefactor (individual or organization) sponsors a student and will sponsor the scholarship for that student throughout their studies.

Mr. Ho Phu Bac - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City Association for Promotion of Education - said that after 24 years of implementing the Scholarship Program, 2,789 students have been awarded with sponsorship from 670 individuals and 52 corporations, companies and units with a total scholarship amount of over 27 billion VND over the years.

"To date, 2,273 students have graduated from university thanks to scholarships. Among them, they study finance and banking, education, medicine, information technology, architecture, law, business administration, food technology, English... and other fields.

"Those students who overcame difficulties and studied hard have grown up and become doctors, teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and key officials in the city. There are 3 PhDs, 75 masters, and 2 students who were voted by the city as outstanding young citizens and outstanding young teachers of the city," Mr. Bac informed.
