Office zombies are wandering "ghosts" who find no joy in their work - Career Addict screenshot
In any company or organization, there can exist "office ghosts" - employees who are always wandering around in the crowd.
No matter what kind of environment, perfect or poor, there will always be one or more "zombies". This shows that the root cause of the formation of "zombies" is not entirely due to the corporate environment.
What kind of person is an office zombie?
These zombies are often people who are very afraid of change, because when they change, they have to spend time learning, adapting, and of course, more resources must be spent.
So, zombies are definitely not diligent employees. Their wish is to let me do the current job, don't force me to change anything...
Zombies are employees who don’t like to innovate, they simply don’t like to face challenges. They don’t see the value innovation brings to the organization, or even if they do, they ignore it.
Therefore, zombies are people who not only have extremely low willpower but also lack responsibility in their work. They do not consider the development of the company as their responsibility.
Zombies don't like to participate in common company activities, simply because they feel a lack of connection and interest.
So, zombies are definitely conservative and negative people.
They don't believe that networking efforts within the company bring value to themselves, and of course they reject the opportunity to bring value to others.
Zombies actively block all creative and innovative ideas from outside and inside themselves.
Because zombies always have the mindset that their current job is enough to meet the company's requirements and the urge to build value every day for the workplace is non-existent.
So, zombies are selfish and complacent people. Over time, creativity naturally fades away.
Acute zombie and chronic zombie
Conditions that create zombies can be due to a corporate environment that does not encourage creativity, lack of challenges in work, no opportunities for advancement, poor management...
We do not deny and completely agree that it is the agent that produces zombies. However, in such corporate environments, there will only exist chronic zombies. That is, they themselves have zombie qualities in them combined with a bad corporate environment leading to long-term symbiosis.
As for acute zombies, which are zombies corrupted by the corporate environment, they will quickly escape this environment to leave behind the ugly zombie shadow within them.
They will swim to a different work environment that will get their motivation back.
Therefore, it is not difficult to see that becoming a zombie or not depends on the employee's choice, not on the company environment.
I still believe that the zombie office situation exists because of people's industriousness, conservatism, fear of change and lack of responsibility.
Of course, if you choose to be a zombie and the company still accepts your existence, the price to pay from both sides is still a fair exchange.
On the other hand, the employees who are lazy accept no promotion, easy to replace, low salary, and not in a state of enjoyment. On the other hand, the company accepts that the employees work inefficiently, are not creative but still run errands and have to pay low salary, which is an advantage in accepting their existence.
I believe that HR managers clearly see the zombies that exist in their company environment, but the way they nurture them is also the way they balance value in management costs.
They completely own this game as they have the power to decide whether or not to exist depending on the corporate culture they pursue.
But the zombies are definitely losing time, opportunities, and value. Businesses still have the upper hand in this.
