The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued a press release on the planning of Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square area and the public space area east of Hoan Kiem Lake.

According to the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District, the total planned area of ​​Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square is about 1.2 hectares, with the following boundaries: North borders Hang Gai and Cau Go streets; South borders Hoan Kiem Lake and Thuy Ta house; East borders Hoan Kiem Lake street; West borders Hong Van - Long Van building.

The square is currently a traffic land and the Hoan Kiem Lake Trade - Service - Food Center building is managed and operated by Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco), built from 1991-1993 (land area of ​​about 390m2, floor area of ​​about 1,600m2).

The public space area east of Hoan Kiem Lake has a total planned area of ​​about 2.14 hectares; the western boundary borders Hoan Kiem Lake and Dinh Tien Hoang Street; the northern boundary borders the existing residential area; the eastern boundary borders Ly Thai To Street; the southern boundary borders Tran Nguyen Han Street.

Currently, there are about 54 land and house users, including 12 organizations, agencies and units: Department of Culture and Sports , Hanoi Electricity Corporation, Institute of Literature, Hanoi Population Department, Hanoi Blind Association, State Treasury Office, Electricity Hotel, Northern Electricity Corporation, Power Transmission Company No. 1, City Citizen Reception Office and 2 Cooperatives which are currently specialized houses. In addition, there are about 42 households.

According to the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District, departments and localities are urgently researching, proposing and reporting to the City People's Committee on policies and mechanisms for site clearance, compensation, support, resettlement and temporary residence arrangement for organizations and households within the project scope.

The planning of the above two public space areas and the completion of investment procedures and project implementation will be carried out urgently by the City's Departments, branches, Hoan Kiem District People's Committee, Hanoi Institute of Construction Planning and consultants and experts, in compliance with legal regulations.

In particular, the planning will be implemented on the basis of specific mechanisms issued by the National Assembly in Resolution No. 188/2025/QH15 dated February 19, 2022 to develop the urban railway network system in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the Capital Law 2024.

Hoan Kiem District announced the expected time to clear the "Shark Jaw" building before April 30 and clear the area east of Hoan Kiem Lake before September 2 this year.
