Vietnam women's team benefits, VAR is applied at ASEAN Women's Cup

(NLDO) - The Vietnamese women's team will enter the semi-finals of the 2025 ASEAN Women's Cup against U23 Australia. From the knockout round of this tournament, VAR will be applied.

The Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) recently decided to apply video assistant referee (VAR) technology in the semi-finals and finals of the 2025 ASEAN Women's Football Championship - ASEAN Women's Cup, marking the first time VAR has appeared in a regional women's football tournament.

According to AFF, the implementation of VAR aims to increase fairness, transparency and support referees in making more accurate decisions in key situations, thereby improving the professional quality and image of women's football in Southeast Asia.

This morning, August 14, VIO coordinators appointed by AFF were present in Hai Phong to survey and install equipment for the matches.

Vietnam women's team has an advantage when VAR is applied

In the semi-finals taking place on August 16, the Vietnamese women's team will face U23 Australia in the second semi-final at 8 p.m. The first semi-final will be between Myanmar and Thailand.

Of the four teams, the Vietnamese women's team is the one that benefits the most from playing at home and has had matches with VAR at the Women's World Cup.

This decision of AFF is considered an important step forward for women's football in the region in approaching international organizational standards.
