The 2024 AFC U23 Championship will take place in Qatar from April 15 to May 3. Vietnam U23 is in Group D with Uzbekistan U23, Kuwait U23 and Malaysia U23. According to the schedule, Vietnam U23 will play its opening match against Kuwait U23 on April 17. In the next two matches, Vietnam U23 will meet Malaysia U23 on April 20 and Uzbekistan U23 on April 23.
The 2024 AFC U23 Championship is a tournament to determine Asian representatives to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Specifically, the top 3 U23 teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The fourth-placed team (losing in the third-place match) will participate in a play-off match with the African representative to compete for a spot in France to attend the Olympics.
According to the plan, U23 Vietnam will gather to practice at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from April 5, 2024. However, due to the V.League's schedule, coach Hoang Anh Tuan will not be able to have the full squad until April 6.
Vietnam U23 will have 2 days of training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center before leaving for Qatar on April 8. Here, the team will play a friendly match with Jordan U23 on April 10, thereby completing the final preparation before officially entering the continental U23 arena.
Before competing with U23 Jordan, U23 Vietnam also had 2 friendly matches with U23 Tajikistan in the gathering in March 2024 and had 1 win and 1 draw. However, that was the time when Coach Troussier was still in charge of the Vietnam National Team and U23 Vietnam.
At the upcoming 2024 AFC U23 Championship, coach Hoang Anh Tuan will lead the Vietnam U23 team. In the past, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan helped the Vietnam U20 team attend the 2017 U20 World Cup.
