Today, October 12, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Medical Association organized a scientific conference on research and application in medicine.
Speaking on the sidelines of the conference, Professor - Doctor Nguyen Van Kinh, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Medical Association, said that Vietnam is one of the countries that will participate in clinical trials of the vaccine. dengue fever
This vaccine, produced in Japan, is effective in preventing all four types of dengue virus (DEN) that cause dengue fever. Dengue fever vaccine can help reduce the number of cases and deaths caused by this disease, but requires careful clinical evaluation before widespread vaccination in the community.

"Vaccines are different from antibiotics. Antibiotics are used individually, based on dose and age, but with vaccines, the same dose is given to many people, which has a huge impact on health. Therefore, with dengue fever, vaccines are necessary, but we are not in a hurry. We need clinical trial results with Vietnamese people, because the reactions of Vietnamese people may be different from those in other countries. Accurate results are needed to decide on their use, and this decision belongs to the management agency," said Professor Kinh.
Also according to the Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Medical Association, previously, some countries tested and licensed a dengue vaccine but the effectiveness was not as expected, especially with DEN virus type 2, which is the type of virus that causes severe disease and is a common cause of disease in Vietnam.
At the conference, Associate Professor - Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, President of the Vietnam Medical Association, said that evidence-based medicine is becoming increasingly popular and plays an important role in the treatment practice of clinicians, the field of prevention as well as planning and building health policies.
This is an approach that uses results from clinical research, sharing practice models, and health economic evaluations in making decisions to improve the quality of treatment, prevent health care, and improve patient management.
Vietnam has become one of the important research sites, approaching the level of advanced countries in the world, participating in global clinical development programs in many fields with the contribution of many subjects to research, especially research and applications in practical medicine.
Since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded more than 90,000 cases of dengue fever, including 26 deaths. In Hanoi, over the past two months, the number of dengue fever cases has increased sharply, with more than 2,000 to nearly 3,000 patients recorded each week. There have been four deaths. The dengue virus types circulating this year are mainly DEN 1 and DEN 2, and there is no difference from recent years.
