In contrast to the bustling atmosphere of the blue seas along the length of the Fatherland during the April 30 holiday, there is a peaceful and pristine sea that welcomes groups of tourists who travel long distances to admire the natural scenery and pay their respects to the heroic martyrs on the traces of the Ho Chi Minh trail at sea that still remain here.

That is the historical relic of the unnumbered ship 235 - one of the ships transporting weapons along the Ho Chi Minh trail at sea during the anti-American war - at Hon Heo war zone, Ninh Van commune, Ninh Hoa town (Khanh Hoa province).

Having gone through years of war and 5 decades of peace , Hon Heo beach is now a unique tourist destination of Khanh Hoa, with both wildness and the appearance of a "waking" fishing village, promising to be an attractive destination.

Located more than 60km from Nha Trang, Hon Heo sea area was once called an island commune because there was no road. The only way was by sea from Nha Trang.

Young people from near and far come to Ninh Van to take photos and check in the poetic scenery of a pristine sea.

However, as the road winds under the mountains reaching out to the sea, the Hon Heo area has changed dramatically with synchronous infrastructure, resorts, campsites, hotels, restaurants... gradually springing up.

The vibrant colors of a fishing village attract tourists, especially young people who love to experience the beautiful lands of the country.

Coming to the historical site of the 235 ship these days, everyone is moved by the image of small groups of tourists, some with green hair, some with silver hair, bowing before the memorial stele engraved with the old battle of a heroic period of national defense.

Hon Heo Beach - witness of a tragic battle

The 235 ship relic is famous for the steadfast fighting spirit and heroic sacrifice of the captain, hero and martyr Nguyen Phan Vinh and 20 officers and soldiers on board the ship 56 years ago.

In the Hon Heo sea area in March 1968, a tragic battle took place between ship 235 and seven warships, dozens of combat helicopters and two special forces groups while carrying out a secret mission to transport 14 tons of weapons to the South.

Tourists from Hanoi visit the martyrs' monument of the ship without number (ship C235 and 14 Vietnamese navy martyrs who died while completing their mission of carrying weapons to the South) at Hon Heo wharf, Ninh Van commune, Ninh Hoa town on the occasion of April 30.

In which, Captain Nguyen Phan Vinh let the ship run into Ninh Phuoc beach to drop weapons, then returned to Ninh Van beach to distract the drop location, fought back strongly before detonating explosives to destroy the ship in Ninh Van sea to erase all traces, keeping the Ho Chi Minh trail at sea a secret.

In this tragic battle, 14/21 soldiers of ship 235 heroically sacrificed their lives in Ninh Van sea and Hon Heo forest.

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tra Thai Lam - former chairman of Ninh Van Commune People's Committee - said that thanks to traffic connections, Ninh Van has now changed dramatically and opened its doors to welcome tourists from near and far to the beautiful and heroic coastal area with the evidence of the Ho Chi Minh trail on the sea.

The DT 652D road is more than 10km long, connecting Ninh Van to the outside, erasing the name of the "island" commune (before 2010, there was no road to this area and had to go by sea).
