At the announcement ceremony of the deployment of smart medical kiosks at the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City on September 9, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Trung, Director of the unit, said that digital transformation is a key task that the Institute has been strongly implementing in the past 2-3 years, in which the first highlight is the software system for managing documents, work and digital signatures.

“Previously, we had to print thousands of pages of documents every day to process, sign, and stamp, but now everything is done on a digital platform. This helps save time, costs, and especially the data is synthesized and reported quickly and accurately,” Mr. Trung shared.

At the same time, the Institute also put into operation an application and medical examination kiosks to support people in registering for vaccination services, testing, and managing vaccination records online. Thanks to that, customers significantly shorten the time for registration, lookup, and payment, while the Institute is more convenient in coordinating appointments, managing data, and reporting.

Not only an administrative procedure, electronic medical records also have great significance for people. They can receive test results online, receive automatic vaccination reminders, and easily manage health records. Medical staff also reduce manual workload, standardize processes, and provide data for research and epidemiological forecasting.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thi My An, Team Leader of Team 2, Department of Administrative Management of Social Order, Ho Chi Minh City Police, the conversion of technology into medical examination and treatment helps people not have to travel much, do not need to carry documents such as health books or paper health cards. When registering through the medical examination and treatment kiosk, citizen information will be compared with the national database and synchronized with the health sector.

In the near future, the Ho Chi Minh City Police will coordinate with other units to deploy more utilities such as installing medical examination and treatment registration machines at home and in apartment buildings. In addition, people can register online, discuss and consult health directly with doctors.

According to MSc. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh Tuan, Director of the Center for Clinical Biomedical Testing and Scientific and Technical Services, Pasteur Institute, in the previous testing process before digital transformation, the biggest difficulty and the most time-consuming and labor-intensive was information entry.

"Because the information was not managed, it had to be entered manually, leading to a lengthy process. Now, digital transformation helps shorten the information entry stage, reducing the time of the entire process by 1/3 to 2/3. The process for patients will be much faster and more convenient," Dr. Tuan shared.

In addition, another important benefit is that test data is managed from input to output, easily linked with electronic medical records and the national vaccination system.

Implementing a major transformation, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City also faced many challenges in terms of information technology infrastructure, human resources and processes. To overcome these challenges, the Institute invested in servers, network security, standardized business processes, and built a team of specialized information technology staff.
