Viet Huong and Thanh Loc work hard in a movie about 'leg-pulling ghosts'

The movie Ma da starring Viet Huong has just released its first images.

The first poster of the film has the image of a "leg-pulling ghost" reminiscent of a scary folk tale in Vietnamese culture.

In the film, Viet Huong plays a country woman who works as a corpse collector, with a haggard appearance and an older appearance compared to real life.

She shared that this film project left the most profound memories and impressions for her.

Viet Huong said: "This is the film that I have spent the longest time in Dat Mui - Nam Can - Ca Mau , to feel the natural beauty as well as the people here.

When I took part in this film, I had to start learning to dive, learn to swim, and also learn about the reality of the work and life of a corpse collector.

It was the enthusiasm of the people in Ca Mau who taught and guided me step by step so that I could do my best in the role that touched me the most and that I can never forget."

The film was set and filmed for 35 days in the mangrove forest in Nam Can, Ca Mau.

For this role, Viet Huong learned to swim, dive and soak in water all day during filming.

Despite the hardship, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc said the film crew was very close together thanks to Viet Huong bringing positive energy to the whole crew.

In addition to Viet Huong and Thanh Loc, the film also features female singer Cam Ly. Ma da is directed by Nguyen Huu Hoang.

Nguyen Huu Hoang has worked on films such as Murder Lens and Parallel. He worked as a production assistant for director Ang Lee when filming Life of Pi in Malaysia.

Leg-pulling ghosts - a haunting experience for generations

This is the first time Nguyen Huu Hoang has made a spiritual film on the big screen.

He said: "This project is a big challenge for me, I hope the film will not disappoint the audience."

Ma da is one of the folk spiritual topics that has been passed down for many generations, a warning for people to be careful to avoid accidents on the river.

"Beware of ghosts pulling legs" is a creepy warning but also a warning that better safe than sorry.

Ma da is produced by AMF Company, distributed by Lotte. The film is scheduled to premiere on August 16.
