According to a VNA reporter in Sydney, Sky News (Australia) recently published an article stating that when Australian tourists want to look for “meaningful cultural adventures,” Vietnam is at the top of their list because tourism in this Southeast Asian country is of good quality and cheaper than any other popular destination.
According to the news site, Vietnam is considered a vibrant country, full of vitality and rich in cultural identity.
The latest data this year from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) shows that the number of Australian visitors to Vietnam has outstripped all other popular international destinations, increasing by 54% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2019.
Ms. Nicole Newport, Sales Director for Oceania at InsideAsia Tours, said there was "clear evidence" that Vietnam was rapidly becoming a popular tourist destination and expected this trend to continue in the future.
According to her, with its geographical location close to Australia and rich experiences, from historical cities, bustling markets to majestic natural landscapes, the diversity of landscapes makes a visit to Vietnam can give visitors the feeling of exploring many countries.
In addition, Ms. Newport said, more than ever, more tourists are looking for meaningful cultural exploration trips that go beyond the usual tourist routes.
According to Travel Money Oz, another factor that makes Vietnam an attractive destination for Australian tourists is the exchange rate between the Australian dollar (AUD) and the Vietnamese currency.
A Travel Money Oz spokesman said Vietnam consistently offered Australian travellers incredible value.
With the AUD steadily appreciating against the Vietnamese Dong in recent months, visitors can enjoy even more benefits. This directly impacts the traveler’s budget, with an average meal or taxi ride costing around AUD5, and a 1 litre bottle of purified water costing around 80 cents.
Travel company Klook also reported a surge of up to 250% in hotel bookings in Vietnam from March to June 2025 compared to the same period last year.
The most searched destinations in Vietnam include Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Da Nang, Ha Long Bay and Hoi An./.
