Yen Trung flood area isolated after storm No. 10

After storm No. 10 made landfall, Yen Trung commune became a “flood center” with many areas deeply submerged. Currently, the entire commune has 13/24 hamlets with more than 1,300 households isolated.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Cu - Chairman of Yen Trung Commune People's Committee said that after storm No. 10, 13 out of 24 hamlets were isolated by rising floodwaters.

The 13 isolated hamlets of Yen Trung commune include 11 hamlets in the old Hung Trung commune (Hung Trung 1, Hung Trung 2, Hung Trung 3-4, Hung Trung 5, Hung Trung 6, Hung Trung 7, Hung Trung 8, Hung Trung 9a, Hung Trung 9b, Bui Thuong and Bui Ha hamlets); 1 hamlet in the old Hung Yen Bac commune (Hung Yen Bac 5 hamlet) and 1 hamlet in the old Hung Yen Nam commune (Hung Yen Nam 5 hamlet).

It is estimated that there are more than 1,300 households with more than 5,000 people in the 13 isolated hamlets. Along with that, the locality suffered great damage when more than 900 houses had their roofs blown off, and agriculture suffered heavy losses. 4 schools, medical stations, and police headquarters had their roofs blown off, hundreds of electric poles were broken, causing the whole commune to lose electricity and water.

The biggest problem facing the people today is the lack of clean water for daily activities and cooking. To move around, people have to row boats, which is very unsafe. Meanwhile, the commune's rescue equipment is very lacking, with only 2 canoes.

Faced with the above situation, the commune has established 5 rapid response teams including the standing members, vice chairmen, heads and deputy heads of departments, the Commune Military Command, and the Police to grasp the situation and handle issues to support the people.

Armed forces, militia, and youth union members immediately appeared to clear fallen trees, rebuild houses, and help people quickly stabilize their lives.

The commune also allocated budget resources and called on donors and businesses to support households in isolated hamlets. Accordingly, 2 businesses supported 200 gifts including instant noodles, dry food, drinking water... to the people.
