Located in the North of Thai Nguyen province, Thanh Mai commune was established on the basis of merging 3 communes: Thanh Mai, Thanh Van and Mai Lap, with a total natural area of over 111km2, including 20 villages with more than 7,350 people. Currently, the commune has 347 poor households and 257 near-poor households.

Mr. Ha Duc Duc, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Thanh Mai Commune, said: Determining this as a key task with profound humanitarian significance, the commune has been making efforts to carry it out. The Steering Committee has met to discuss and propose specific solutions, close to the reality of each village and each household to speed up the progress and strive to complete it according to plan. For each person, a house is not only a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but also a warm home, an important foundation for life.

Mrs. Nong Thi Lieu, in Hop Thanh village, one of the people who received support to build a house, could not hide her emotions: Due to very difficult circumstances, being near-poor, my whole family has lived in a dilapidated, cramped house for many years. Every rainy season, we feel anxious and worried. Although according to custom, a house will not be built if someone has just died, but following the State's policy, my family started to build a house with the support of the local government.

Thanh Mai commune has 144 households with approval decisions to be eligible for temporary housing demolition, of which 138 households have registered to do so. Currently, 48 households have completed; 89 households have started construction; 2 households have committed to start construction before July 15.

To complete the plan, in addition to the efforts of the government, it is necessary to have the joint efforts and consensus of the people, businesses, and benefactors inside and outside the commune - Mr. Ha Duc Duc, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, added.

With the drastic participation of the Steering Committee, the consensus of the people and the high determination of the commune leaders, the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses according to the plan of Thanh Mai commune will soon become a reality, bringing a better life to the people here.
