WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to translate messages directly into the desired language right in the app, making it easier to communicate across languages. To translate a message, users just need to hold the message and select “Translate”, then choose the language to translate to or from, and download the necessary language for later use. This feature applies to both personal messages, group messages, and update channels.
For Android users, WhatsApp offers an additional option to enable automatic translation for the entire conversation, so all messages in that conversation will be translated instantly without any manual action.
WhatsApp promises that the translation process takes place entirely on the user's device, and no third party, including WhatsApp, can access the message content. This ensures that messages remain protected by end-to-end encryption, keeping user privacy absolutely safe.
Currently, the message translation feature has been rolled out for both iPhone and Android users. Android users can translate into languages such as English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. Meanwhile, iPhone users get support for more languages, including Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Traditional), Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
The feature is not yet available on WhatsApp Web or the Windows and Mac apps. WhatsApp has not announced a specific time when the feature will be rolled out to these platforms, but the direct integration in the mobile app opens up the opportunity for seamless communication between users globally.
