8 pairs determined in the round of 16 of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup

After the group stage ended on the evening of August 27, the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup determined the eight matches in the round of 16 - the first knockout round.

Specifically, the teams that won tickets to the round of 16 of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup include: Netherlands, Thailand (Group A), Italy, Belgium (Group B), Brazil, France (Group C), USA, Slovenia (Group D), Türkiye, Canada (Group E), China, Dominican Republic (Group F), Poland, Germany (Group G), Japan, Serbia (Group H).

Of the 16 teams that made it through the group stage, nine were from Europe. The remaining six were divided equally between Asia and America. Vietnam was the only Asian women’s volleyball team that did not make it through the group stage.

The round of 16 will see exciting encounters: Netherlands - Serbia, host Thailand - Japan, USA - Canada, Türkiye - Slovenia, Italy - Germany, Poland - Belgium, Brazil - Dominican Republic, and France - China.

In the above mentioned confrontations, only the match between China and France saw two teams from two different continents. The remaining 7 matches all saw teams from the same continent eliminated each other.

In particular, host Thailand promises to face many difficulties against Japan. In the last 9 encounters with Thailand, from 2019 to now, Japan has won 8 times.

The round of 16 of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup will take place from August 29 to 31.
