Agricultural, forestry and fishery trade surplus reaches record of nearly 18 billion USD

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , in 2024, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products will reach a record high of 62.5 billion USD, an increase of 18.7% compared to 2023; the trade surplus value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products will continue to reach a new record of 17.9 billion USD, an increase of 46.8%.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien shared that the economic structure of the industry and agricultural production structure has continued to shift, adjust appropriately, integrate multi-value, be more effective and linked to the market, increase the proportion of sub-sectors and products with competitive advantages and high value.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved and implemented projects to promote the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to major markets (the United States, China, Japan, and the EU) from 2023, combining the implementation of solutions to open new markets with great potential and effectively negotiating and signing new orders in 2024.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development implements mechanisms and policies for trade promotion, negotiations to open and develop markets to boost agricultural, forestry and fishery exports; proactively handles food safety incidents and cases of shipments being warned in import markets.

The Ministry coordinates with Embassies and Commercial Counselors in countries to build channels for exchange, provide market information, enhance promotion and advertising for products that have been opened and officially exported; promote the application of information technology in collecting information, directing and guiding the issuance of codes for growing and raising areas and tracing the origin of agricultural, forestry and fishery products for export.

Functional units strengthen research, forecasting and market information to promptly orient the organization of production and consumption of agricultural products; implement trade defense measures and technical barriers in accordance with international commitments, negotiate and sign mutual recognition agreements.
