Although he was eligible for a temporary deferment from military service, the orphaned boy in Nghe An wrote an application to join the military .

The small house of Tran Phuc Trung's family (born 2006) is located at the end of Lang Nghe hamlet, Lang Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An .

Seeing him volunteer to join the military, the neighbors were very excited, believing in the will, aspirations and efforts of the boy who lost both parents at a young age.

Trung's childhood was full of hardships. When he was 5 years old, Tran Thi Luong (born in 1962, Trung's biological mother) fell seriously ill and passed away.

Since then, father Tran Phuc Van (born in 1962) has been working hard all over the place, trying to find ways to raise and educate 5 children (before Trung, he had 4 older sisters - PV).

In 2012, Mr. Van fell in love with Ms. Ly Thi Trinh (born 1972, living in the same locality), and later had another daughter. The couple borrowed money from everywhere to build a level 4 house.

Tragedy struck the family again when Trung was 8 years old. Mr. Van died suddenly in an accident. At that time, Trung's 4 older sisters were married. Trung lived with his stepmother and younger sister. The mother and children relied on each other, together overcoming the difficult years.

“In July 2015, I was sent to the SOS Children’s Village in Vinh to be raised and educated (at that time Trung was in 4th grade – PV). Here, I was taken care of and instructed by my mothers and uncles, and I also learned to be self-aware, independent and disciplined,” Trung confided.

After graduating from high school after nearly 10 years living in the SOS Children's Village Vinh dormitory, despite achieving quite high scores, Trung did not register for university or college but decided to return to his hometown.

After that, Trung worked as a worker in Bac Ninh for a while, then studied mechanics in his hometown and helped his family.

"I have completed high school and am 18 years old, the age at which we young people want to devote ourselves to our beloved Fatherland," Trung wrote in his application to volunteer for military service.

Commander of the Lang Thanh Commune Military Command, Mr. Nguyen Ba Vu informed that the commune's military service council decided to temporarily postpone Trung's military enlistment due to family circumstances.

However, Trung expressed his wish to serve a limited period in the army and wrote an application to join the army. The commune military service council issued an order to call Trung to undergo a preliminary health examination at the local level.

Recently, Trung and 35 citizens of Lang Thanh commune completed a preliminary health check at the commune, meeting the standards and conditions to participate in the upcoming military service examination at the Yen Thanh district military service council.

"The fact that citizen Tran Phuc Trung, despite being temporarily deferred from military service and having a difficult family situation, voluntarily registered for military service examination is very welcome," said Mr. Vu.

Trung said that his family members agreed and supported his application to volunteer for military service.

"Joining the military is not only a responsibility and obligation, but it will also be a good environment for me to train myself and become more mature in life," Trung believes.

Ms. Ly Thi Trinh (born in 1972, Trung's stepmother) recalls the time after Trung's father passed away: "After Mr. Van passed away, the family fell into difficult circumstances, with heavy debt. At that time, the first and second sisters married nearby and often cared for and encouraged Trung to study hard.

Besides, mother and child also received care, encouragement and monthly financial support from relatives to help them overcome difficult years.

When Trung volunteered to join the army, everyone in the family was excited, hoping that the military environment would help him become strong, disciplined and mature.
