On September 27, Military Hospital 175 coordinated with Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (China) to organize a scientific conference with the theme "Promoting Vietnam - China cooperation, elevating traditional medicine".
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said that Vietnamese traditional medicine is an inseparable part of the national cultural heritage.
Not only demonstrating the wisdom and national identity over thousands of years, traditional medicine also plays an important role in people's health care today.
Over the years, there have been many important policies to preserve, develop and promote international cooperation in this field.
Many resolutions have strategic significance, clearly demonstrating concern for the health sector in general and traditional medicine in particular.
Resolution No. 72 clearly identified many strategic viewpoints to improve the quality of healthcare, protect and care for people's health such as bringing healthcare services closer to the people, people need to access healthcare services right at the grassroots healthcare level, the solution is to improve the quality of grassroots healthcare.
"The cost of disease prevention is much cheaper than the cost of treatment. 1 dong spent on disease prevention is equal to 1,000 dong spent on treatment. When preventing diseases, people do not get sick, do not have to go to the hospital, reduce the burden on medical facilities and improve quality for people," Mr. Tuyen emphasized.
He said the Ministry of Health will continue to encourage the construction of traditional medicine gardens at commune health stations, both to serve learning purposes and to help people identify medicinal plants and apply them in life; promote medical examination and treatment activities using traditional medicine with health insurance right at the commune and ward levels; and combine traditional medicine with modern medicine in a scientific, synchronous and effective manner.
Major General Tran Quoc Viet - Director of Military Hospital 175 - said that traditional medicine is a precious heritage of mankind, a bridge between tradition and modernity. Vietnam and China have a long-standing traditional medicine, with many similarities in the philosophy of health preservation, non-drug treatment methods and the use of natural herbs.
Over thousands of years, the two medical systems have coexisted, complemented and developed, making important contributions to the care and protection of people's health.
In the current context, when chronic diseases, population aging and many emerging epidemics pose challenges to global health, combining the quintessence of traditional medicine with modern medical achievements becomes increasingly urgent.
In particular, Military Hospital 175, as one of the top 6 hospitals in Vietnam, aims to be a multi-functional - specialized - modern military medical complex on par with the region and the world, always attaching importance to the development of traditional medicine, combining military - civilian medicine, linking treatment with research and training.
On the same day, Military Hospital 175 launched the Acupuncture, Massage, and Acupressure Training Center - an important milestone in the cooperative relationship between Military Hospital 175 and Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
This project is implemented with the attention and support of the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and other relevant agencies, and is expected to quickly become a prestigious address in training and transferring specialized techniques, contributing to the development of high-quality human resources and preserving and promoting the quintessence of traditional medicine in health care for the people of the two countries.
