3 breakthroughs create new growth momentum for Vinh Xuong

Vinh Xuong is a border commune, with 6.2km of border with the Kingdom of Cambodia. The commune focuses on 3 breakthroughs: Border trade economy , high-quality agriculture, and synchronous infrastructure. This is not only the development orientation of the border commune but also the province's strategy in exploiting the advantages of the border gate economy, linking agriculture with cross-border trade, gradually affirming its role on the growth map of the upstream region of the Mekong Delta.

Vinh Xuong owns an international border gate, a highlight in the trade between Vietnam and Cambodia and the Mekong sub-region. In recent years, import-export turnover through the border gate has continuously increased. In the first 8 months of 2025, it reached more than 500 million USD. Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Lam Minh Thanh emphasized: "Vinh Xuong has an important position in the province's border development strategy. Focusing on exploiting border trade advantages not only creates momentum for the commune but also contributes to realizing the goal of making An Giang a fairly developed province in the region".

To promote this sector, the government and customs sector are promoting administrative procedure reform, gradually moving towards digital border gates and smart border gates. This is the foundation for Vinh Xuong to become a modern cross-border trade center, attracting domestic and foreign enterprises.

Despite the advantages, border economic activities still face obstacles such as: unsynchronized border gate infrastructure, limited logistics services, and potential smuggling.

Promote high-quality agriculture

Along with the border trade economy, Vinh Xuong is famous for its rich agricultural area with mangoes, fish cages, catfish fry, and vegetables. Vinh Xuong Fruit Cooperative manages more than 600 hectares of Keo mangoes, Hoa Loc cat mangoes, and Cat Chu mangoes. Most of the area is assigned a growing area code, serving official and unofficial export to many markets. Mr. Huynh Van Hiep - Director of Vinh Xuong Fruit Cooperative said: "Thanks to production according to the chain link, with businesses purchasing, people's income is stable, and their lives are increasingly developing." Mr. Tran Van Lam, residing in Hamlet 2, said: "Previously, people grew mangoes with unstable prices, but now there are businesses placing orders for export, so people are assured. Farmers hope the State will support them with techniques and guide them on market standards so that they can follow them."

According to Chairman of Vinh Xuong Commune People’s Committee Bui Thai Hoang, high-quality agriculture brings economic benefits and affirms the brand of agricultural products in the border area. To maintain the advantage, the locality must quickly apply technology, digital transformation in production management, traceability and green agriculture development.

To successfully implement the 3 breakthroughs, the Party Committee, government and people of the commune have gradually completed the infrastructure. The commune has concreted many inter-hamlet and intra-field roads, helping to facilitate the transportation of goods and reduce production costs. Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Vinh Xuong commune Tran Hoa Hop affirmed: "The Party Committee, government and people of the commune are determined to promote infrastructure investment, striving to build Vinh Xuong to meet advanced new rural standards. We recommend that the Central and the province soon upgrade National Highway 80B from Tan Chau to the border gate, and at the same time develop a modern logistics system. This is the foundation for effectively implementing the 3 breakthroughs."

It is noteworthy that the Party Committee of the commune places the development of Vinh Xuong in the context of regional linkages and international cooperation. The commune is located on the Tan Chau - Chau Doc - Ha Tien corridor. When the infrastructure and logistics are completed, goods from Vinh Xuong Border Gate will be distributed throughout the Mekong Delta. Internationally, this is a bridge with Cambodia, opening up prospects for two-way trade, services and tourism.

In the situation of "1 border gate, 2 development spaces", Vinh Xuong not only exploits the current advantages but also aims for the future as a model new rural commune, deeply integrating with the regional and international economy, contributing to making An Giang progress faster on the path to becoming a fairly developed province in the Mekong Delta.
