The Cam Nhuong Commune Red Cross Society (Cam Xuyen District) was established in 1988. From the very beginning, the society has paid special attention to volunteer activities and mutual assistance in the community. In 2021, on the basis of merging a number of commune-level associations, the Cam Nhuong Commune Red Cross and Social Protection Society was formed. From here, the commune's "community of love" model was officially established, bringing volunteer activities into order, method and spreading more widely.
Chairman of the Red Cross and Social Protection Association of Cam Nhuong Commune, Dang The Quy, said: “Charity activities are regularly launched by the association in coordination with organizations and villages in the community. Every year, the commune-level association and 9 village branches and 3 school branches raise over 700 million VND to donate thousands of gifts and support dozens of humanitarian addresses. Charity activities are also associated with the annual programs “Humanitarian Tet” and “Humanitarian Month”.
The model "Compassionate Community" helps spread a humane and supportive lifestyle in the residential community in Cam Nhuong commune.
Not only responding to the programs launched by the association, the movement of charity and good deeds has become a way of thinking and living of the people. When facing difficult circumstances or sudden disasters, families join hands and contribute to help. Typically, in 2019, people in the commune contributed 450 million VND to support the family of a person who died due to a boat sinking; in 2022, nearly 50 million VND was donated to accident victims; in 2023, children living far from home gave gifts and savings books worth tens of millions of VND to people in difficult circumstances...
Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet (Dong Hai village) shared: “My husband passed away early, raising 3 children alone is too much for me. Luckily, the Red Cross, neighbors and children far from home supported me. My children and I were given a savings book worth 25 million VND; my children were recommended by the Red Cross to be considered for the free education and care support program. I am extremely grateful for those kind hearts and noble gestures.”

The "community of love" model of Bac Hong ward (Hong Linh town) also promoted the effectiveness of mutual support and spread humanitarian activities for the community.
Ms. Le Thi Kim Thu - President of the Red Cross and Social Protection Association of Bac Hong Ward said: "Currently, our model is regularly supporting 10 humanitarian addresses in the ward with a support level of 600 thousand/month. The humanitarian and charity movement is carried out by families and inter-family groups through activities in daily life such as helping each other clean the house, cooking family meals, giving gifts, visiting the lonely...".
Poor and disabled households in Bac Hong ward are supported with drinking water during days of water shortage (September 2023).
In recent days, the water reservoirs in Hong Linh town have dried up, causing a serious shortage of domestic water, greatly affecting the lives of the people. The Red Cross and Social Protection Association of Bac Hong ward has also connected with benefactors hundreds of water tanks to directly support 50 poor and disabled households in the ward, contributing to helping those in difficulty solve the water shortage.
The "compassionate community" model in Cam Nhuong commune (Cam Xuyen) and Bac Hong ward (Hong Linh town) are two pilot models deployed in Ha Tinh according to the plan to build a "community of compassion" of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society .
The "community of love" model contributes to the development of the movement "Good people - good deeds, joining hands to build a community of love".
Vice President of the Provincial Red Cross Society Tran Thi Hai Viet said: “The model of “compassionate community” is built on the basis of promoting volunteer activities and mutual assistance in the residential community; bringing volunteer activities into a more substantial and systematic manner. The results achieved have shown the effectiveness and spread of the model.
In the coming time, the Provincial Red Cross Society plans to continue to expand in other localities, contributing to the development of the movement "Good people - good deeds, joining hands to build a compassionate community" launched by the Central Society.
