(NLDO)- In 2024, A05 ( Ministry of Public Security ) received and handled 74,000 cyber attack warnings.

On December 17, in Hanoi , implementing the action plan of the National Cyber Security and Safety Steering Committee and commemorating Vietnam Cyber Security Day, the Ministry of Public Security coordinated with the National Cyber Security Association to organize for the first time the 2024 National Cyber Security Drill with the theme "Responding to and overcoming intentional cyber attacks (APT) on important information systems related to national security".

Lieutenant General Nguyen Minh Chinh, Director of Department A05, spoke at the exercise summary ceremony.

Speaking at the exercise's closing ceremony, Lieutenant General Nguyen Minh Chinh, Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05 - Ministry of Public Security), Permanent Vice President of the National Cyber Security Association, emphasized that if Vietnam wants to build a new era of prosperous development, it must rely on many factors, including prosperity in cyberspace, and must protect the country's key information systems, such as protecting the central nervous system.

According to Lieutenant General Nguyen Minh Chinh, cyberspace is inherently unsafe and insecure. Ensuring the security of Vietnam's cyberspace is a noble mission of organizations and individuals in the field of cyber security.

"With tens of millions of warnings and signs of cyber attacks happening to our country's information system every year, we have clearly seen that this is not a game but a war. A global war, there will be no true security if the national cyberspace is constantly attacked without being able to respond" - Director of Department A05 emphasized.

According to Lieutenant General Nguyen Minh Chinh, the exercise "Responding to and overcoming APT attacks on important information systems related to national security" had the participation of experts, engineers, and specialized officers in charge of ensuring network security from 41 agencies, organizations, and enterprises.

The exercise plays an important role in improving the ability to protect information systems, especially information systems important to national security. Through realistic simulations, the teams experienced and practiced the skills to detect and respond to cyber threats effectively.

"This exercise has helped us clearly see that cyber security is a battlefield, requiring the participation of many forces, is a constantly changing field and always requires updating and creativity from responsible people," Lieutenant General Nguyen Minh Chinh stated.

According to a report by the National Cyber Security Association, in recent times, cyber attacks have been constantly increasing, becoming more complex, unpredictable and tending to target important information systems in key sectors such as energy, banking, securities, telecommunications, etc.

In 2024, A05 (Ministry of Public Security) received and handled 74,000 cyber attack warnings, 83 APT attack campaigns in Vietnam, collected and analyzed 125 samples of 64 different malware lines of hackers.

Vietnam's capacity to prevent, combat and respond to cyber attacks is still limited. When a cyber attack occurs, the process of handling and responding quickly to minimize damage is still confusing and difficult, leading to many cases where units and organizations suffer great damage from cyber attacks and leave behind potential consequences and risks of continued attacks in the future.

The National Cyber Security Association said the exercise was a great success with prizes for first, second and third place teams and certificates of participation for the exercise units.
