After launching iOS 26 with a completely new interface and many breakthrough features, Apple also released iOS 18.7 - a small but important update for users who do not want to upgrade or are using iPhone models that are no longer compatible with the new operating system.

As a rule, Apple only maintains two parallel versions of iOS for about two months, to create a "buffer" for users to gradually get used to the new system and handle errors that may arise in the early stages.
The iOS 18.7 update is seen as a safe interim solution for those who want to wait for the first iOS 26 bug fixes, or simply aren't ready to move to the all-new Liquid Glass interface.
With a capacity of only about 1/15 of iOS 26, this update mainly includes important security patches and performance improvements for older devices. Although it does not bring significant changes to the interface or features, iOS 18.7 is still recommended to install to ensure stable and safe operation of the device while waiting for the upgrade.
In the official release notes, Apple says: “This update provides important bug fixes and security updates, and is recommended for all iPhone users.” This is a recommendation to ensure the device operates stably and is safe from potential risks.
The iOS 18.7 update has just been released by Apple for iPhone models released from 2018 and later, including iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd generation, and the entire iPhone 13, 14, 15 and 16 series.
Notably, the three iPhone XR, XS and XS Max models are no longer supported to upgrade to iOS 26, so iOS 18.7 is the last security and system optimization update that these devices receive.
Users can update to iOS 18.7 directly in Settings > Software Update, as long as their device is still on the iOS 18 support list.
