Apple Watch officially banned from sale in the US

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 smartwatches are officially banned from sale in the US market due to copyright infringement.

The ban on the sale of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 smartwatches by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) officially took effect on December 26.

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 smartwatches have been discontinued from Apple's online store in the US.

Apple has now discontinued the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 from its online store in the US. However, users can still find the products at third-party retail systems.

Apple has been in a legal battle with health tech company Masimo for years over blood oxygen sensors, especially since Apple launched the Watch Series 6 in September 2020 with this feature. In a filing with the ITC in 2021, Masimo accused Apple of 103 infringements on five different patents. After an investigation, the agency concluded that Apple infringed on two patents.

For its part, Apple said the company is making every effort to bring the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 back to the US market as soon as possible.

Currently, the ITC's decision only affects two smartwatch models, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. The Apple Watch SE and older products are not affected by the ban.
